What is Spirit?
Cause I saw the Witchy One and Alla discussing it, and thought it could use its own thread.

I see it in mathematical terms. Angel

RE: What is Spirit?
The topic of *spirit* never goes well. In fact, it usually devolves into a mess by page 2 of discussion. And seeing as how I've never really come to any verifiable conclusion I'm not going to be much help.

RE: What is Spirit?
...Cantor.

On a more serious note.

Spirit is often equivocated with "essence" and here I can agree with you that if the essence of something can be described by its ultimate fundamental mathematical patterns and processes then that may be its "spirit".

In human terms its hard to describe psychological behaviour with mathematical patterns (but certainly not ruled out) but IMO spirit would still be related to fundamental psychological essential traits. I'm not particularly keen on the term "essence" or "spirit" when describing humans because we know that the mind emerges form brain functioning via many emergent properties coming together without one internal "spirit" master controller. (not quite a Humean bundle theory but certainly not Descartes dualistic notions)

WitchSabrina Can I get an extra point for actually giving an accurate definition without the need for allegory, metaphor, metaphysics, woo woo or transcendental meta-ontologies or God ?

The above point is really important:
We can share spirit as I defined it above - i.e locate it, identify it and drink it & feel the effects - quite empirical in my opinion.

(As soon as forum system allows me to give ratings again - you're getting rating point from me. Apparently there are limits to getting to award rating points)

I forgot all about the useful definition of the word. I'm going to have to make a distillery and go into business selling Rob's Holy Spirits.
