Gwynnite. Baptized Irish Catholic; it was all make believe until god showed up on the jobsite. Now I'm all Living Word of Gwynnite; it's just a job. Don't believe it. Makes perfect sense. Big Grin

I didn't leave my comment. voted "other"
I had like 2 or 3 intense roman catholic years but I don't count them because I didn't reeeaaally believe in it.
Most of my life it was the witchcraft/esotheric.

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
The religion I almost agreed with was ancient Greek, too bad there was no one to help me with the rituals as a kid =p I agreed with it logically though the books I read about it said blatantly that it wasn't true. It just made a lot more sense than that baptist crap they kept trying to spoon feed me.

I am now the founder of the church of cat let me read from our scripture

mraahhh!!!!!!.....mmrrrr mew mew mrrahh!!!!!! (hissing noises) mrrrrr (lots of sniffing) mrahh (place paw forward)

Ahh it fills you with such an indescribable joy to utter the holy mewlings. Sorry we don't have an English translation yet, interspecial translations are difficult.

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
Christianity: I'm embarrassed to say that I actually believed all of it when I was a small child. At around nine or ten I started to learn about dinosaurs and one kid asked the teacher how it's possible that dinosaurs lived on the earth for millions of years if god created humans on the sixth day. I suggested that maybe a day for god was not a day for humans. But the teacher shut me down and insisted it was a day, and then refused to discuss the dinosaur issue any longer.
I became an atheist soon after that.

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
I cannot really say. My parents never took me to any church. My father prays to himself before every dinner but that's all I've ever seen out of him regarding religion. My mother never mentioned anything to me. She gave King James bible in 1991 "to keep me close to him" but never said anything otherwise after that. She has only become more religious after her mother died - that being more talk about god and "his" power, etc. I went to church a few times as a kid. Maybe a couple times with cousins and that was just to hang out with them. That was a Baptist church. I went once with a girl I was "dating". I felt awkward as if I didn't belong there. I believe that was a Baptist church.

When I joined the US Air Force and was in basic training I went to church on Sundays to get myself out of the barracks. It was a Protestant church. Lots of crazy singing.

I've been to funerals for family that passed away. Just felt out of place with that.

When my girlfriend got pregnant in 2001, we got married in a court house so that she could get medical coverage, etc. Her parents were upset and demanded a church wedding after that. So we found some local Christian church that would take us on a whim. My (then) wife's family was Catholic. Irony is that my daughter's name is Angel.

So I don't know. I cannot claim that I was any religion. I never truly believed and was just always skeptical. I guess I was a life-long agnostic until certain things just made me a pure atheist. Funny though how my mother never made a big deal when she believed I was agnostic but once I told her I was atheist she felt "pity" that I had "no faith".

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
Used to be muslim(no shit Tongue), went to the mosque every friday and always had a Sheikh
come by my house from as far back as i can remember (maybe 4 or 5 yr old, to give me scripture lessons and help me with the school's religion classes (state mandated in all schools even private ones like mine).
This went on till my last year of highschool, but by then i had seen loads of things that made me think and doubt
George Carlin, Ricky Gervais, South Park and some other stuff too and from then on i started doubting
but i really truly became an atheist when i admitted it to myself 2 months ago
(celebrated by breaking islamic prohibitions, pork and beer while listening to Black sabbath and watching porn ftw!), and only truly became
an atheist (in a point of no return way) a week a go when a desecrated that Quran with my penis Smile (true story)
no i just sit around and take to my new copy of the quran with a highlighter every now and then
and giving advice to Yahweh on how to be a compitent god. xD

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
ok this poll went on as I thought it would.
Explains why most topics are very christian.
When I started this poll I did it because I kinda feel left out because I don't come from christianity but I still fight with my exbelief and seems like no atheist / unbeliever here might be able to give me the answers I would like.
But I will start a revolution (after work) *sounding oh so heroic* I will put some topics out there and see if there can be some help or brainstorming anyway...

RE: What is your (ex-)religion?
Well, I was Church of Christ, then Catholic (spent 2 years as a cloistered Carmelite nun), then Wiccan, Druid, and then Asatru. Never found a 'god' in any of them, and if I haven't found him/her/it by now, I don't think there is one......... And believe me, I have looked!
