RE: What makes me maddest about theists
Zealotry and extremism of any type doesn't make me mad. It just makes me so disappointed that I want them to go fuck themselves.

Occasional TTA returner then leaverer.

RE: What makes me maddest about theists
Fanaticism and lack of knowledge in theists don't make me mad, sad however fits. What's more troubling is that they try to make their silly, religious taboo into laws - no abortion cause it's killing the unborn children, no gay marriage cause it's destroys the sanctity of marriage, no euthanasy for it is god who should decide.

If believers would not try to stick their nose in affairs of others, and would not try to force their absurd taboos on rest of the population I wouldn't have had problem with them. As it stand I am disusted with them trying to suppress freedom of others.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

I saw a video of a christian kid who saw nothing inherently wrong with slavery as long as it was done with good christian values.

WTF ?

Then I thought, "well then, if someone should kidnap him and chain him in a basement for the next 20 years, raping him 2-3 times a day, he should be ok with it. After all, no rape in the 10 commandments."

I actually used to be fine with slavery until I found the Catholic Church's official teaching and even then it wasn't until I got the reasoning from Rerum Novarum that I really became actively anti-slavery.

It's not at all debatable except as a straw man.
No intellectually honest person has ever said that "our accrued secular knowledge is perfect".

Quote:The arrogance, the self righteousness, the hubris all rolled into one. The condescending tone to those whose good graces he relies upon. The spitting on your benefactors. That is what angers me.

How do you think those preachers felt about you, when you came out to yell at them in anger?

I'm told atheists on forums like TTA are bitter and angry. If you are not, your posts to me will be respectful, insightful and thoughtful. Prove me wrong by your adherence to decent behavior.

Read the entire post, Q, and perhaps you'll get why I'm mad. But then again, that's never been your strong suit.

RE: What makes me maddest about theists
I get you Natachan. We don't get them very much on our campus, but when I was a student in the south, we would get them quite often. I remember this preacher calling us students masturbators. One student went up to him and said "yeah, and we also like to fuck". The crowd just laughed at the preacher. Which brings up the point that laughing at them and mocking their ridiculousness is provably more effective in disarming them. Get a bunch of your friends together or your SSA (if you have one) next time they come. A roar of laughter is more likely to send them on their way with their tails between their legs.

I found it an excellent read. It's a commentary on economics that is not partisan to either socialism or capitalism. It also refuses to see humans as just a cog in the economic machine. I would definitely recommend reading it even if you're not religious.
Also when you say research program are you referring to just doing some personal research or are you talking about taking a course. If the latter then I could give you a hand by pulling out relevant passages from the encyclicals written as as a response to Rerun Novarum.

I'm. Also homophobic in the same way I'm arachnophobic. I'm scared of spiders but I'd still fuck'em.
