(07-02-2015 04:29 PM)Job_1207 Wrote:  Hi guys,

I'm new around here, relatively speaking. I'd like to start a thread that has probably never been done before, if I may. It involves the question: "What's going to happen when I cash in my chips?" And I'm not talking about casino chips, but pushing-up-daisies or kicking-the-bucket kind of chips.
I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but the only certain thing in your life, from the second you are born, is that one day you are going to die. Everything else is just a cast of the dice. So I don't think it is too inappropriate to ask this question.
When you give the answer, there are several possibilities, because the answer contains both what you think will happen (based on your current conviction) and what you wish would happen if you could have it "your way" so to speak, religious convictions aside. It doesn't matter, God or no God. And the answers should be combinations of the following possible options:

1-I am 100% convinced that nothing will happen. I will simply disappear from this universe. I will feel nothing, like going to sleep and never waking up again.
2-I think, but I'm not convinced, that nothing will happen. I will probably disappear from this universe. I will feel nothing, like going to sleep and never waking up again.
3-I think, but I'm not convinced, that I will wake up somewhere else, I don't know where, but death will probably not be the end of it.
4-I am 100% convinced I will wake up somewhere else, I don't know where, but death will definitely not be the end of it.

And:

A-I wish there was something after death, even though that seems unlikely.
B-I haven't really thought about it.
C-I wish there was nothing after death, except endless nothingness.

So, your answer must be something like 1-A or 3-B, or whatever combination describes you best. When giving the answers try to be honest with yourselves. You have absolutely nothing to lose or to gain if you're not. Feel free to give (short) reasons for your answers, if you want to.

And to break the ice, I'm going to be the first to answer the question. Illogical as it may seem, I am a 4-C.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Well, I hate to say 100% convinced, but I am damn near close to that as far as, I do live my life with the belief that nothing is going to happen after I die. That I will simply cease to be, so I guess I am pretty well a 1.

As far as the other... I'd love to be able to tag along with humanity far into the future - see what we accomplish or how much of our universe we end up being able to explore. Though, if we aren't able to get off this rock before it all goes bust, then I don't think I want to know. Sad I think the death of the human race bothers me more than the thought of my own demise. If I can die with the belief that one day we'll be advanced enough to travel among the stars and get to explore our universe, then I'll be content. Would be awesome to see such a thing with my own eyes. But a religious-y afterlife? Or reincarnation? Nah, I don't buy into that. Maybe scientists in the far distant future will scratch the remnants of my DNA off of a rock or something and reconstruct me - that could be cool. Cool

Sorry. I guess 1-A? I'm damn near 100% sure that nothing's gonna happen after I die, but I'd like to be able to take a little nap so to speak and then "wake up" in the future to whatever cool things are going on with the human race. Big Grin

1-A - but with little twist - I certainly don't want an eternity of boredom or torture, reincarnation sounds better to me.

When I die I will be led to Valhalla by valkyries, where I will join Odin in preparation for Ragnarök.

Okay, 1A. Not because I fear nothingness, but because, given the option, I'd kind of like to experience some more stuff. I don't like the idea of heaven, though. What a boring, pointless existence that would be.

Not if you can spend time observing, interacting with and trolling the living. Tongue

By the way, this is an interesting coincidence, I was just googling about life after death and found an article about NDE, and scientists investigating it. It would be interesting to see what surprises science has in store in the future.

Anyway, I'm also 1-A, but I'm more hoping scientists discover a way to prolong our life, as in stopping or slowing down the process of aging. That would be much better and I would be able to experience advancements in scientific and technological fields. Such as what Escape Artist said. Big Grin

I'll take a 3-A. Why the mournful 4-C?

I'm glad my thread got some answers and comments. I didn't expect this one though. (#-A's are pussies.) It actually made me laugh.

So, "A's" are sissies (to use a softer word), "B's" are dummies (because they haven't thought about it), and "C's" are the tough guys who would even have the guts to tell God to go to hell if they accidentally came face to face with him, presuming there was a God, of course.
Also, I noticed the majority were "1's", which is not surprising, and 1-A was the most common answer. That in itself tells something about the human spirit. Even if we "know" there is no "hope," we still wish there would be some.
Oh, by the way, I'm still waiting to find a #-C which is not a 1-C. I mean, a 1-C is not only a tough guy, but also a smart one too, cause apparently 1 is for smart people and 4 is for not so smart people! Now you may wonder why I chose 4-C myself. Well, duh! In order to choose #-C you need to be stupid enough to also choose 4-#! Let everybody understand whatever their "1 to 4" allows them to.Big Grin

RE: What's gonna happen when I cash in my chips?
I am a Christian so my answer is 5-D.

5-I am100% convinced I will wake up somewhere else and because I have repented and put my faith in Jesus Christ my sins have been forgiven I know I will be in Heaven with Christ.

D-After we die we will all stand before God to be judged. We have all sinned and deserve eternal punishment in Hell. Jesus Christ died to atone for our sins and everyone who has received this forgiveness by faith will spend eternity with him. Those who have not will be condemned to Hell where they will receive the punishment they deserve.

If I am still alive when the Rapture takes place I will never die at all.
