What's the coolest thing you have seen in the sky?
I'm about 90% sure I saw a substantial meteorite above Logan the other week. I think I heard a crash and looked up to see something resembling the Russian meteorite captured on video be many not that long ago. This was much smaller, at night, and I didn't feel any kind of shockwave. I've seen small meteorites streak quickly across the sky before but this was bigger, brighter, and seemed to be moving on a slower arc.

Once you head out bush not too far from Brisbane you can often see satellites make their way across the sky. So what's the coolest thing you've seen out there with your own eyes or captured why your own telescope or binoculars?

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

I counted 10 satellites one night.

While on a plane flight I saw flying far below us a tubular, shiny object that appeared not to have wings.

I love watching meteor showers. Cloud formations can be cool and I love watching sunsets at the beach. The Northern Lights are on my bucket list.

Looking to the East of a morning and admiring Venus before the Sun's rays occlud it.

Not sure what the smaller planet which is appearing close to it is.

Mars?

I know Venus and Jupiter had a conjunction not that long ago...

During the Perseids a few years back, my nephew, myself, and a couple of others saw a large meteor traverse 3/4 of the sky before breaking up into three distinct pieces.

Also, this blue heron, ungainly on the ground, was simply beautiful in the air:

RE: What's the coolest thing you have seen in the sky?
I once saw this big meteor light up the sky and break into pieces. I think I made a thread about it here. Not as big as the Russian one, but much bigger than every meteor I'd ever seen before in meteor showers.

However the most impressive thing I've ever seen in the sky was a "rainbow cloud", a phenomenon called "cloud iridescence". It's like a rainbow on a cloud, but brighter than a rainbow. I was on the train and realized I had forgotten my camera, which sucked because it was literally the most awesome thing I've ever seen in my life Sadcryface
