What's your ideal afterlife? Make one up!
Every religion has it's own stance on what will happen when you die, or where your consciousness is going to end up. Oh goodie, eternity playing a harp on a cloud!

Boring nonsense!

Time to get creative. What would you WANT to have happen to your consciousness after you die?

Personally, I'd like to enter into a permanent dream-like state. In this dream, I would relive my life, except I would do it with all of the knowledge and memories I've accumulated throughout this life.

But, after starting my life over again, I don't want to have just the knowledge I've accumulated, I want ABSOLUTE POWER!

Yes indeed. I want to restart my life, knowing everything I know now, and have absolute control over every aspect of the universe.

I could avoid all of the mistakes I've made in life. I could protect the people around me from harm. I could make this world (that exists only in this dream I'm having) a better* place!

*My definition of better. Specifically a global ban on clothing, the actors of "The Jersey Shore" spontaneously disintegrating into nothingness, free high speed wireless internet for everyone, a permanent and long lasting peace existing between all nations of the world.

I can dream.

The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one

I'd love re-doing my life, only being able to choose the person I am (where I'm born, what I look like, etc.) and retaining my memories and what I learned from this life (though those memories and that knowledge being incrementally imparted to about age six or whatever (number completely arbitrary), since having a talking, walking, future-predicting infant would be pretty weird, not to mention I wouldn't want to directly remember being birth'd xD). I have dreams about it, actually. Redoing parts of my life with knowledge that I have now, in a different body, I mean.

I am 100% certain that I am wrong about something I am certain about right now. Because even if everything I stand for turns out to be completely true, I was still wrong about being wrong.

Orgies.

Nonstop, euphoric sensory overload orgies with whoever I chose interspersed with 20 minute break time buffets of every food imaginable.

Sort of like the Matrix only I'm the programmer.

And also, the option to end it all and completely cease to exist again. Because any afterlife, no matter how pleasant, will get old on a long enough time line.

Tour the universe as a spirit with my girlfriend and several other intellegent spirits. Go see everything and be able to materialize and enjoy different planets. Adapt to atmospheres or deep space. That should be an interesting qua-trillion years.

Don't have to make one up. Bobby Henderson already did, and I can see the beer volcanoes and the stripper factories in my future Smile

The ability to jump to different realities. Kind of a twist on Buddy and Michael's ideas only I could jump from one reality to another as I got bored, like Buddy's in the sense that I can program them and Michael's in that I would be living a new life. The realities would probably be based on different books, video games, tv shows and movies. For example I would probably choose a world based on The Elder Scrolls first and then visit the future in a Mass Effect based reality before heading into the deep past of the Greeks and Romans.

mere immortality and being able to travel across the entire universe in mere seconds. I'd prefer to be a demi-god

Having the ability to experience in a realistic way anything I imagine. It would also be neat if I could set it up so that there was a beep whenever my life significantly influenced someone living and I got to watch the event =p Of course I would want the ability to be around others when desired so hopefully a communal little omnipotent rest stop =p.

Though it would also be entertaining if you could just choose from all things created in the living world and live through them yourself including fictional things. At some point you'd want ideas other people have.

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

I don't know if I'd want it to be an afterlife. I want more of this life now where I cat to interact with this universe. Maybe i'd want to upload my consciousness into a new body. I.e. self replicating nano bots. I'd no longer have the limitations of this body. I could command the bots to do what ever I want.

Tell them to gather raw materials and I'd transform myself into a huge spaceship, with redundancy. I'd be create multiple 'selfs' to help. With nanotech any kind of meteor or space debris that hit the ship wouldn't matter. The ship can break apart and function separately and put itself together again. I'd incorporate the useful materials from debris into the ship. I could reconfigure everything at will.

If I wanted I could recreate an organic version of myself or a hybrid with the advantages of both organic and machine. I wonder what it would be like experiencing life as a dolphin. I could create one with slightly higher intelligence so it can house a version of myself.
Later reintegrate this self into the whole.
I'd explore the galaxy. Take all the abundant fuel I need from gas giants. I could scoop up lots of hydrogen grazing past the outer atmosphere of gas giants and use that as a means to decelerate when I enter another solar system. There are also plenty of asteroids to mine for raw materials.

I'd have all the time I want to explore the universe and learn more.

There would no longer any physical limits imposed on my intelligence since I can control/update/change my hardware and wiring at will. I'm sick of this frail limited human body...

Let me out of here!
