The Four Aces, and the music of the 50s in general, was by many standards far more evocative than much of the utter crap that's produced today—and when the word romance actually meant something. Far too much contemporary music today is filled with doom and gloom, and death, and promiscuous sexual imagery that objectifies and degrades women. And I doubt any millennial could even comprehend the significance of these beautiful lyrics.

SYZ, along the same lines of Love Is a Many Splendored Thing is this wonderful song by Hoagy Carmichael. At one time it was voted as having the most beautiful lyrics by the general public back in the early 1960's. And it really IS a beautiful song. This Nat King Cole version has been used many times in movies.

I was named after a song my mother loved, based on a movie of the same name, Laura. She wanted to someday name a daughter after this song and it took her 6 boys and one daughter to finally get to this name.

I love the song and thanks Mom for the lovely name.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Don't let those gnomes and their illusions get you down. They're just gnomes and illusions.

That's another of my favourites too Dance...

I have a CD of Love Songs by Nat King Cole, and every single one of them is a gem. There'll never be another singer with such a honeyed voice as Nat, (who sadly died of cancer at age 45). "Autumn Leaves" is another that's a favourite of mine:

And today's film trivia... Hedy Lamarr turned down the role of Laura. Smartass

I was 14 years old when I bought this single. The punk movement opened up a whole new world for many of us then, much to the disgust of little old catholic Ireland......Tongue

NOTE: Member, Tomasia uses this site to slander other individuals. He then later proclaims it a joke, but not in public.
I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.
