What was the reason behind the creation of religion for you?
Hi,

very friendly people on this forum. So I have a question for all atheists, what was the objective behind religion when it first started?

I'll begin:

some guy called Jesus was doing a social experiment, but he died before being able to say JUST A PRANK BRO.

That and to cover people's fears, like nothingness after death.

RE: What was the reason behind the creation of religion for you?
Goes back a couple of million years to when some frightened hominids cowered in a cave and began to wonder about the origin of all that thunder and lightning raging outside.

Then, over time, the politicians (they have existed that long) and power seekers realised that they could build on this. They could hold the people in thrall via theatre of myths and legends and supernatural entities, plus threats of holy retribution, and then extract food, and later riches, out of the masses.

It got more schizophrenic later, both good and evil masquerading under the same banner.

Life after death was probably a late entry.

Tomorrow is precious, don't ruin it by fouling up today.

Explaining unknown and social manipulation would be my guess.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Quote:The hyperactive agency detection (HAAD), or hyperactive agent-detection device (HADD), is the most widely accepted explanation for religious belief in biology, psychology and sociology. It offers us a naturalistic explanation of the origin of beliefs which form the basis of every religion.

I love it when google behaves.

Also, I remember "standing before the creator of the universe," thus hear my testimony. Without prophets, ain't no religion. Wink

It was created to control people.

Wasn't. As a creator, I must object. That I love my Gwynnies and am driven to share my discovery; I refuse to accept to accept your conclusion. However when the priests kill me, I'm sure Gwynnite shall be a measure of control. Wink

Well, I don't think religion was created for me!

I object to the forced worship of Gwynnies. Tongue
While I admit she exists, I cannot see any evidence of her divinity. Shocking

I think she is an utterly divine entity!

Nor should you. I don't object to the concept that religion was marketed for control, just that it was created for control.
