True story. I could never swallow the hell concept, so that didn't bother me much. And then god showed up and made me a prophet - that cat's pretty fucking scary. But that's all I got.

I think the scariest thing for me was the whole idea not only of influence from satan and demons, but the possibility that people could actually be possessed by them. I even read a book about demonic possession at one point that scared the heck out of me.

Then I once spoke to "satan" telling him he would never get me, that I would never follow him, and that I would always be faithful to Jesus. Later, when I was losing my faith, I actually found myself fearing that this conversation might have had something to do with it and maybe he was "getting me" after all.

Stupid indoctrination! Dodgy

Being alive forever, soo boring, they probably don't have internet up there.

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.

You cannot successfully determine beforehand which side of the bread to butter.

Stepping out of line. And then I did, and am getting through it alive.

The concept of hell. It is used to scare children and it does. It stopped me from even considering the whole thing was just a myth. That's a good strategy for them.

The old gods are dead, let's invent some new ones before something really bad happens.

Former-Catholic/Anti-Theist -
1) The whole crucifixion scene and the agony of Christ leading up to that. Talk about torture porn. I always thought I would be expected to prove myself and have to willingly submit to something similar at some point. Don't ask why, just the thoughts in my head as a 5th grader.

2) The idea of hell and eternal punishment. Being on fire and having my skin peeled off forever.

3) The idea of an apocalypse where god comes down and starts wiping people out. Wasn't really preached about, but a conclusion I came to on my own. Mostly because of how smiteful he was in the old testament.

RE: When you were indoctrinated, what scared you to death?
Biggest thing was demons. I feared demons would haunt me, and no amount of praying or begging Jehovah would make them go away.

I didn't really fear not getting into Paradise after Tribulation, but I feared what I might be put through during Tribulation. My mind came up with some pretty nasty things non-believers would do to me to torture me during The End in order to make me denounce my religion or give up the hiding places of my fellow believers. Wasn't sure I'd be strong enough, I guess.

I feared losing my husband if both of us made it to Paradise, because there's a Bible verse that suggests that people won't act as married people do, but "will act as angels" after Armageddon finished and the Earth was returned to its Garden State. When I read that the first time, it actually stressed me out really bad. I didn't want to lose him to being... what? Just a friend? Not after everything. That seemed so backwards and wrong to me, and I just couldn't let it go. I even asked an elder about it to try to bring myself some comfort. He didn't give me a very comforting answer...

I know this is way old, but here goes:
Eternity. The idea of there not being an end, ever, was physically unbearable. Just thinking about it would leave me terrified for hours.

Hell. Scared the living shit out of me until I outgrew the childish, and evil idea.
