Is there a machine in heaven which is printing souls?

Just a side note here. A "created" human being doesn't possess the ability to reproduce.
Placental mammals emerged millions of years ago by copying genes from a virus.
As natural human beings go, we are a product of evolution.

I'm not even sure what a "created" human even looks like.
My guess is a piece of dirt that is rolled into a ball with a bit of water and perfectly spherical.

Insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

The 'soul' is, much like spirits and gods, nothing more than a concept. So we humans created the concept, certainly; but souls no more exist than do Tolkien's elves or Lucas' Jedi.

The whole notion is pretty weird.

If one is willing to grant that there is a god who created the universe, then it's pretty simple to assume there could be a god who creates souls. From what I can tell, the modern notion of God ensouling fetuses (embryos?) is a bunch of apologetics tacked on top of the existing religion. Supposedly we all have souls, and they came from somewhere, so... Goddidit?

But what's really weird to contemplate is that God is basically waiting in heaven with his soul-foundry, pumping out new souls every time humans procreate; always exactly one-for-one. Never is a fetus made without a soul, and never is a soul made without a fetus to house it. While this isn't impossible per se, it is extremely weird to contemplate. For instance, this is a good case where God is completely and utterly beholden to our actions.

Also, modern apologetics seem to think that it is necessary for us to suffer in this world to deserve/appreciate heaven, which would answer the question "why doesn't God just crank his soul-foundry up to 11 and fill heaven with countless souls?". Personally, I think it's stupid apologetics to give an ad hoc justification to the problem of evil, and it makes a lot more sense when viewed as such.

Alternately, you can go full-Momon* and say that our souls always existed in heaven, and we got sent to earth for a test, or something.

Define what is a soul and you will know where it came from.
The same goes for free will. It's incredible what deep problems you solve just by defining the concepts precisely.
