Where have all the religious gone, long time passing?
Apologies to Pete Seeger.

Where have all the atheists gone? Kudos to the Czechs but fuck the French. Tongue

(Country, % Atheist, % None, % Non-Religimous)
(China, 47%, 30%, 77%)
(Japan, 31%, 31%, 62%)
(Czech Republic, 30%, 48%, 78%)
(France, 29%, 34%, 63%)

Where have all the religimous gone? Natural attrition is my guess.

(Country, % Religious 2005, % Religious 2012, % Drop)
(Vietnam, 53%, 30%, -23%)
(Ireland, 69%, 47%, -22%)
(Switzerland, 71%, 50%, -21%)
(France, 58%, 37%, -21%)
(South Africa, 83%, 64%, -19%)
(Iceland, 74%, 57%, -17%)
(Ecuador, 85%, 70%, -15%)
(United States, 73%, 60%, -13%)
(Canada, 58%, 46%, -12%)
(Austria, 52%, 42%, -10%)

And apparently religion is not so much the opiate of the masses as it is the opiate of the poor:
(income bracket, % religimous)
(bottom 20%, 66%)
(bottom 40%, 65%)
(bottom 60%, 56%)
(top 40%, 51%)
(top 20%, 49%)

Lots of interesting statistics in there. Enjoy. Big Grin

The income bracket correlation is true in the US.

Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris and TTA forum (lol) must take some of the credit!

Good on China...the leaders in a new world order in more ways than one.

It would be interesting to see the figures equating religiosity and level of education.

It's there in Table 8:
(Education Level, % Religimous, % None, % Atheist, % Non-Religimous)
(none/elementary, 68%, 20%, 7%, 27%)
(secondary school/high school, 61%, 23%, 10%, 33%)
(university, 52%, 24%, 19%, 43%)

Uni makes it nearly twice as likely to turn out an atheist than high school and nearly 3x as likely than elementary school.

What's with all those gray countries? Undecided

I think in the end, I just feel like I'm a secular person who has a skeptical eye toward any extraordinary claim, carefully examining any extraordinary evidence before jumping to conclusions. ~ Eric ~ My friend ... who figured it out.

It's good to see Australia punching a little above its weight.Interesting that Spain is not terribly different to similar countries in this figure, with its high degree of outward religiousity. I'm not sure it's quite fair to compare China to other countries given its governance model, but its interesting to see it compared to the former USSR which had a fairly similar model. Were they more similar in the past and have diverged over the last few decades, or were they always different?

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

They weren't polled.

Nice to be reminded of Pete Seeger.Thumbsup

Lots of them have got themselves in to New Age stuff such as Osho, Theosophy, Anthroposophy, Sea of Faith, and heaps of new stuff coming out all the time.

Be careful not to get sucked in Girlie!Confused
