Ken Ham - probably the most accurately named evangelical ever.....

His face really does look like a pig's ass........

I know, midway between those great tourist destinations, Cincinnati and Lexington. Always wanted to take a couple weeks off and go there ...

Seriously, they do get some convention attendees bussed in from the Big City, as an article someone else posted mentions. But this is the kind of attraction you might go to if it were close by and you were really bored, it is clearly not drawing large numbers of people to "historic" Williamsburg, pop. 3500.

Then you'd have your choice of the Monongahela or the Allegheny Rivers. But wherever it lands, it goes SPLAT and squats in that new location. "We all float down here" isn't an option for that pile of crap.

You may want to find a cheap copy of that book, Rapture Ready!: Adventures in the Parallel Universe of Christian Pop Culture. It reminds me exactly of what you just said; there's even a chapter where he goes to a tradeshow for Christian retailers and meets the guy who made the Almighty Heroes (and also had a hand, if memory serves, in making GI Joe), who specifically tells him that his main reason for doing so was to make money off the hordes of Christians who will throw money at substandard products due to those products being Christian.

Other interesting adventures in the book include:
  • Being a Jew who ends up performing in a Passion play.
  • Interviewing people involved in Ultimate Christian Wrestling...a wrestling evangelism group.
  • Discussions with Christian artists about the issues with Christian radio and how you can't get on without enough JPM (Jesus Per Minute).
  • Anti-evolution museums!
  • Bibleman! (He's like Christian Batman with a lightsaber!)
  • He meets people railing against IVF as unholy, which is the only time in the book he gets truly angry with anyone, because that's how he and his wife were finally able to have kids.
  • And going to a Hell House with Jay Bakker (the liberal pastor son of notorious televangelists Jim and Tammy), who is so shaken up he has to have a cigarette afterwards, while he literally quakes in place outside.

Sorry to be like "must share shiny book"! Also loved the OP video...at first it made me cringe though, as the Brother Noah song is exactly the one my cousin and her Baptist minister husband sent me from the Ark Encounter.

I came across a Bibleman video recently. There are no words....no words. Facepalm

I'm sorry Sad Watched one as a child at a friend's house. My mom thought he was too cheesy to waste money on.

I am currently reading "The Infiltrator' about a man who joins different fringe and religious groups.
So far he has joined the Promise Keepers, a teen abstinence conference and a group of Neo-Nazis.

Oh that sounds fascinating! Will have to add it to my "to read" list! I've had personal experiences with two out of those three groups. Though to be brutally honest, some of my students make me wonder if I could say the same about the Neo Nazis too...also guess could say 3/3 if one counts the Klan, had a few encounters with their members. Like one of my eighth grade teachers who was one.

Need to think of a witty signature.

I know for the regular readers/contributers of this forum, you're probably well aware that Ken Ham created a "life like" size Noah's Ark. It's a christian amusement park that used 62 million dollars of a TIF (tax increment financing) loan. This means that if the Ark Encounter fails, the Kentucky tax payers swallow the debt.

They never should have had to pay that loan up front, but what's done is done. I'm curious to see how long this Ark will stay "afloat" (*snort hehe*)

I don't know which contractor they picked but I'll bet he's laughing all the way to the bank.

RE: Who built the Ark Encounter?
I Noah a guy too who's a Christian scientist who says Noah put the dinosaurs on the ark. Actually, I only know him as an internet personality. But he is a Christian, and he is a scientist. I told the guy that common sense alone should be enough to debunk that idea since it would have taken 12-15 arks to house them and their food! I got banned from a christian forum for saying Christian scientist have got to be some of the most ignorant people on earth!

If you believe in the ark, then it is almost impossible for anyone to debunk anything in your mind. If you already believe in miracles, what's so hard about believing in another?
