It might be fun for some low lifes, more so when comments just come out of the blue.
Some pseudo prophets too: seem obsessed with this crass type of humour.......Rolleyes

Pseudo-prophet is redundant. Tongue

I voted "something else", but if you would have worded your sixth option ("You see the suffering and the human condition in this world and you therefore don’t understand how a Merciful God could allow this") differently, I would have used that.

I don't believe in God because I don't see any evidence that he does exist. I don't see why I should start assuming unproven claims to be true. I can't prove that a nonfalsifiable God doesn't exist, in the same way that I can't prove that leprechauns don't exist.

Quote:there is insufficient evidence for the existence of any gods.
there is insufficient evidence to establish the claim
you get to provide the evidence for the claims....I'll be waiting
Because there is no evidence that any god exists
There is no reason to be otherwise
in addition to "evidence against", I'd add "insufficient evidence for"
these people value evidence and truth more that fantasy and lies
Lack of evidence is My main reason for being an atheist
Burden of proof. Look it up, then ask your question
All religious claims are either not evidently true, or evidently not true
Believers have yet to show me why I should believe your faith is real...show me evidence
I don't believe in God because I don't see any evidence that he does exist

I'm sensing a pattern here but can't quite put my finger on it...

Terribly sad story.

A friend of mine revealed to me that she became an atheist when her son was stillborn. She couldn't see how a 'kind' god could allow that to happen.

I've never had to go through such an experience. I can't imagine how anyone could bear it.

"God" is the ultimate ambiguous term.
Yet believers and atheists claim to deny or confirm.
The Christians and other faiths try to prove their gods by arguments when faith and hope is all they really have.
Atheists argue against these defined gods, thus playing their promoters at their own games.
There is another option. One can question evolution on the basis of the need for a vivifying force. This force will embrace everything...the good the bad and the ugly and how we address such just might have valuable repercussions.

RE: Why?
Umm, I could not believe in Jesus, the 10 commandments, and the bible and still be a theist, you know.

Your bias is showing.

There is no "I" in "team" but there is a broken and mixed up "me."

There is no evidence of any such "vivifying force".
There is no evidence of any need for a "vivifying force".

If you question evolution, then you haven't looked for the answers. Try harder.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Atheism is really nothing more than an acceptance of reality, as it really is. Religious people don't like reality as it really is, so they believe in a concocted version of it as to escape it. Shouldn't you be wondering why people need to believe in a fantasy in order to cope with reality?
