I have SO many stories about this stuff and every story has
a warped angle to it.

In random order:




During the time of still hanging on to just a shred of faith
(1998ish). At this time in my life I was basically still saved but not going to
church and for the most part just ‘unplugged’. I had a termite pest guy come to
the house to give me a quote. I had 2 really kick ass DC Talk albums on my
coffee table. He saw them, asked me what I thought about them. I told him I like the way they were not
overly preachy, the production was KILLER and the vocals were good. He then
showed his true fundamental colors. He began to destroy DC talk ..about how
they were living double lives..but MOST importantly how they were signed to a
SECULAR record label. And THAT one move means they were still lost. I tried
reasoning with this fella but you could tell he was simply waiting for his time
to speak and was hearing nothing of what I had to say. I truly felt dumber for
even talking with him.

In high school my Southern Baptist Bible class teacher
worked overtime to tell us the evils of rock music. I remember one day after a
LONG discussion about rock and CHRISTIAN ROCK as a gateway drug to the devils
rock…I waited till after class to address this. Now, I was a full on fundie at
this point, witnessing to Jews, neighbors, reading the bible daily, prayer
before every action….FULL of the Cool Aid. I went to Mr. Loden and said…if all
this rock music is bad, then what is good? He then told me of how current
worship music is the best and safest. In a moment of Unearthly wisdom I replied
“The drums David would have dance to would have been made of tree stumps and
cow hide, the stringed instruments would have ONLY been stuff like Sitars and
other African sounds, the piano and electricity was not invented yet ….so MR
Loden, the sounds they would have heard back then would have sounded like Led Zeppelin
3!” Apparently my bullshit reader as always worked, I just turned it off for
the most part..until that day. Mr. Loden had no response to me. One of the many
moments with my YODA that I walked away totally unsatisfied with the response.

Mr. Loden’s opinion on Christian Rock was that it was IN
FACT a gateway to regular ROCK and MUST be avoided! Stryper was no better than
the Stones. One leads to the next which leads directly to hell.

Now that I am 43 now and own a Private Recording studio (on
the side of my day job) I still have ties to Christian music. Last year I produced
no less than 2 very good Christian cd’s. What I find absolutely remarkable is
the message versus the lives these people lead. I have seen more nude pictures
of ‘conquests’ from these Christian artists than I EVER have with secular rock
guys. And the stories about some of the famous Christian rock guys I could tell
(but wont) would have you in amazement!
I do know from several inside contacts that the actual
Christian record labels are more cut throat and even more ruthless than the
regular secular labels.

More than ever I see folks claiming to be Christians…for the
main reason of “Appearances” is all for show.
Especially on Facebook……which is turned into “Let me show you how MORE
godly I am by sending around this picture with a saying…that you must click the
like button or you are less Christiany than me!” It’s like it’s a race to be
King Christian!

As I type I recall this Christian artist I did an album on
about 10 years ago. He was one of those In Your Face evangelical types…and the
most racist guy I have met. I occasionally get emails from him with the usual “Anti
Obama, Muslim, antichrist” all the while ‘claiming the name of Jesus’ nonsense, it’s this odd ‘two minded world’
these types live in.
