RE: Why are Atheists afraid of death?
Hmm... afraid of death... nah. I'm kind of ambivalent about death. On one hand, I'm sure I'll be pissed about something when it happens - I'll either be really old and feel like shit or still youngish with some lingering illness and feel like shit - either of those situations would piss me off. However, I think if I'm of sound mind and physically capable and at least make it to 100, I'll be fairly content.

It might make me sad to think of not being around to taste things anymore or see things or hear sounds. And laugh. It's best to make sure to do the things I like and really appreciate them... every chance I get. Just this morning I had the most delicious oatmeal cookie I could ever remember tasting and I suddenly had the thought that when I die, I won't be able to have this taste ever again.

So, I ate another. Drinking Beverage

A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move to higher levels. ~ Albert Einstein

This is a joke, right!

Ok, it's not a joke.

Um, um, um, is this a trick question?

Maybe not.

Uh, ok, is this a sound question?

FUCK NO!

The assumption is that all Atheists are afraid of death. Gasp

You are making up stories.

You are also full of shit and a troll.

First you are an atheist, then you are not.

I will tell you what you are: You are a Christian who came here to show us up. But you are less intelligent and delusional.

Bow to your betters and apologise.

I was never religious. Atheist from birth. And I am glad of it.

I do like the Greco Roman gods though. The Hebrew one is too badly written.

I actually hate religions. I'm not religious or atheist. I'm somewhere in between. All I'm trying to do is point out how atheists' notion of death doesn't make any sense to me

The notion is that our consciousness is formed as a product of our brains, and the consciousness mentioned ceases to exist at death.

The second clause of the second sentence is true, but the first clause isn't.
Life is about what you think it's about, like KC said. Pondering what the purpose of anything is, and anyways, I want YOU to tell me what purpose religion assigned life in the first place.
Actually, let me do that for you.
The purpose of life in religion, particularly most major ones, is to worship, meditate, follow arbitrary rules, or get punished. This is accounting all religions, even Buddhism. (The punishment for Buddhism is not escaping rebirth.)
It's all about punishment. It's "Do or DIE" and by "DIE" I mean get punished.

Life has meaning in and of itself. We do not need a higher power to give our existance meaning. Our purpose is to ensure the continuation of the species.

Religion is not required for either meaning or purpose.

That is true.

The people who founded those religions had huge egos.

RE: Why are Atheists afraid of death?
This Alan Watts character has a pleasant voice and shitty sense of logic. I give the whole video no credence whatsoever.

That said, Mark Twain once wrote something along the lines of already having been dead once, for the billions of years before he was born, he was not at all put off by it (that's probably a lousy paraphrase).
