What were they exactly?

Sorry, I don't have time to type it all out right now, but I will at another time. If you can't wait to learn more about what I believe you can wade through this massive thread to try and find some answers.

It's really huge, though... so good luck if you do.

Well, my experiences aren't empirical and are entirely anecdotal. But, these experiences change me as a whole.

Whether an experience changes a person is irrelevant to the accuracy of that person's interpretation of the true nature of said experience. Agree?

I never heard or saw a deity....

It's a long story, but as a former Christian, I can tell you I had some experiences I considered to be spiritual.

Looking back on it now... It was just a psychological phenomenon. Goosebumps and such.

If they aren't lying about the experience then what could it be?
Hallucinations?

If anyone has an article about this I'd be happy to read it!

Explain what constitutes hearing/seeing?

Like physical manifestations and audible voices, or seeing visions in dreams and having God speak to you through "feelings"?

Which are you referencing?

Seriously, kc? How the fuck should we know? It's the ones who say that their god talks to them that you need to ask.

I don't recall that you gave any detailed description of your experiences in that thread.

You dodged by saying we wouldn't credit it as evidence, which is certainly true.Drinking Beverage

I remember getting comfort from praying, and feeling what I thought was the Holy Spirit's presence. But, as it's been pointed out.. you can pray to a rock and get the same results as praying to God. You just think about all the times when the rock "answered" your prayers, and give thanks to the rock. If what you prayed for doesn't happen, you merely assume the rock either wants you to wait, or maybe the rock has decided you don't need whatever it is you asked for. You then just conclude the rock must know things we don't know, so we will never quite understand why the rock answers or doesn't answer particular prayers.

It's just confirmation bias.

I also remember reading my Bible and thinking I had discovered great truths that the Holy Spirit had revealed to me. But, the only problem was, when I shared them with others, they either didn't get them at all, or had a contradictory interpretation.

An unfortunate problem, indeed.

But we all know the proper way to deal with it: burn the heretic. Problem solved!
