I could give a long post outlining my position. But Ian Hislop already did it...

RE: Why do Brits want the death penalty?
Well, I'm a Brit and I certainly don't want to see it reintroduced.

People in Britain get very pissed off about what the government spends tax money on, whether its Europe, the Olympics, Duck Islands etc... So when they hear that prisoners have satellite TV and games consoles they get really pissed off. And a lot of them don't like their money being spent keeping murderers in relative comfort, while they struggle to make ends meet.

Seems strange to me that they make the jump from the perfectly legitimate complaint that offenders are afforded too much luxury by the state... To saying the solution is to kill them.

Killing them is even more expensive.

Killing them is even more expensive.

It is in the US. Depending on how you structure your system it doesn't have to be, but it's going to be hard to do that. You want to definitively make sure the person you are killing is definitively guilty of the crimes committed.

It is unless you don't care about human rights.

Just watched '10 Rillington Place' last night...

It's an excellent example of why the death penalty should not be reintroduced.
