Why do atheists know more about religion?
In 2010 the PEW Research Center conducted a survey of people's knowledge of religion. Only Jewish respondents scored higher than atheists/agnostics. Why? People have told me that it's because atheists want to study up on what the do not believe in so they can trump theists in debates. I don't think that's the case, certainly not for me. As a young man I studied the Bible searching for truth, searching for salvation. I didn't find it.

Because learning more about religion is precisely what causes many deconversions. Wink

All what's been said with a bit more questioning.

Frequently, the more you question, the more you'll pick up. Those that accept their claims and religion without much second thought won't know what they weren't told repeatedly.

Religious belief requires simply belief, not study.

Without religion, we still have love, light, hope and happiness to go after.

Want something? Then do something.

Vosur has explained it simply and concisely. I have nothing to add.
