Why do theists sign up to atheist forums posing as atheists or thinking people and ask stupid loaded questions?

For the same reason millions of people believe a lost tribe of Israel came to America in a wooden submarine. Gullibility. People tend to live near water sources. Water sources flood sometimes. Seeking answers, the credulous masses ask some bozo who is a smooth talker. The bozo makes up some garbage answer that the gullible masses blindly accept, thereby a myth is born. Throw in a few dozen centuries and some other credulous believers of another myth will act as if this myth verifies their myth. Rinse and repeat and you get modern religion.

I like to think these are legit questions they have and our answers scare them off because they are not what the pastor or apologist told them.

RE: Why do many cultures have a flood myth?
So what do we know...

Many cultures hug rivers and other bodies of water because water is important, especially for agriculture and as a means of transportation.

Rivers, and other sources of water, generally flood from time to time.

Floods often happen unpredictably.

Floods can have devastating impacts.

Many cultures have experienced locally huge floods.

People like to tell stories.

People like to exaggerate.

If few cultures had flood stories it would be surprising. The idea that many do doesn't seem to require much, if any, questioning.

Atheism: it's not just for communists any more!

Here's why there was no flood :

When the Judean priests in Babylon were told by the Persian emperor to write a "national story" that would be the basis for societal order when he sent them back to Israel, they assembled stories and myths circulating in the ancient Near East. Here's where they got the flood story : http://www.ancienttexts.org/library/meso.../tab11.htm

Insufferable know-it-all.Einstein God has a plan for us. Please stop screwing it up with your prayers.
