Don't over think the question.
It's simply because "I" am all that I have.
When I loose "me" I loose everything.
When I die, fuck the rest of you... Big Grin ..it's all about me.

I don't understand what you're asking.

Are you talking about human exceptionalism? That the universe was made for us? That our lives have value? That no one misses you when you're gone? The existential absurdity of life? I just don't get what level you're operating on.

I mean, my life matters. If it didn't, why the fuck would I bother living it?

Or are you on a Hamlet level?

Pretty much anything really.... I have some say they need to make an impact so they're remembered (or just useful). Others say humans are the greatest. Some just think people are "important" in one form or another that sets them apart from others.... Then when people show just how small and insignificant we are (our planet's not even a speck in the universe), it just seems overkill. Even in my small town where "everyone knows everyone" I and a few neighbours don't even know who lives in the houses around us--if they were to disappear, we'd never know, and really, we'd probably not even care beyond a "oh that's horrible!......so what's on tv." and the caring would last about as long as reading that would take. It's like humans believe humans are great, but not really. humans believe that they (the person saying it) is great.

I'd say self preservation, and preservation of the species. Big Grin

The fuck? I gotta repeat myself. ...

I don't. ... Who the fuck in their right mind thinks that?

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either

Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Well, it probably has to do with us being human. If we were cats, we might think cats were the best species around (as cats probably do). Bias, you know? How many people are racist against their own race? Or sexist against their own gender?

My girlfriend is mad at me. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried cooking a stick in her non-stick pan.

Damn it man, I was just about to say the same thing.

I think it's a survival thing. You think your species is best and so that motivates you to keep it going. I mean if we all thought that dogs were the best species EVER! then we'd be offering human sacrifices in order to feed the damn things.

I am sure that every other species believes they are the best thing ever, just we have the bigger brain.

But, but, dogs are the best species ever. Sadcryface
