RE: Why do psychics ask people what their name is?
Because they don't actually possess any psychic powers? Consider

RE: Why do psychics ask people what their name is?
Because these people aren't plying a skill
They're either lying, or mentally ill

E 2 = (mc 2)2 + (pc )2
614C → 714N + e + ̅νe
2 K(s) + 2 H2O(l) → 2 KOH(aq) + H2 (g) + 196 kJ/mol
It works, bitches.

because they wanna do numerology with the name. you can do that. and those who actually believe in numerology will, convincingly, tell you that the name and what it means in numerology is what forms you as a person; at least that it is a huge part, just like the soul.

RE: Why do psychics ask people what their name is?
Some "psychics" make different claims to different powers. For example, I wouldn't expect a tarot card reader, or a palm reader, or a person who claims to have psychic visions of the future, to even claim to know my name. But I would expect such a claim from a mind reader.

I wouldn't expect a medium to know my name, but I would expect a medium to know the name of the spirit with whom they claim that they are speaking. I find it odd that they can "speak" with the dead but for some reason the dead spirits can be really specific about how much they love their children, or where they left some family heirloom, etc., but they can never give more than a vague impression that their name begins with one of these 5 or 6 letters of the alphabet.

It's all bogus, of course. Mind readers can tell me what card I'm holding but can't tell me my name, no matter how hard I concentrate on it. Fortune tellers of all kind can give me specific details of my future but can never tell me what the winning lottery numbers are, or even who will win the Superbowl. Mediums are the biggest liars of the bunch.

When the JREF tells me they have found a psychic and paid out the million bucks, then I'll believe. Maybe. OK, probably not, but I'll be more willing to suspend my disbelief and look for evidence with a more open mind.

Frauds, frauds everywhere.

That is my response.

The people closely associated with the namesake of female canines are suffering from a nondescript form of lunacy.

From what I understand from talking to people who claim to have these different powers is you get shown things in the form of images and emotions.

For no matter how much I use these symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

For any rational person being asked that would be the first sign that this 'psychic' has no power

Behold the power of the force!

RE: Why do psychics ask people what their name is?
It's an I&I thread so it's a trick question.

The actual answer is because the US government pay them too because the physics can tell where the oil is but nobody knows this because it's a big conspiracy. And something about invasions, Osama and 9/11.
