Why do we have poor people?
Simple question. Would be interested to hear people's reasons as to why we have poor people.

For no matter how much I use these symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

Two words, PAY GAP!

Other countries like Japan and Germany have dishwashers and janitors and cooks, what they don't have is the pay inequity.

We have a extraction market bent on creating slave sweat shop labor.

All poor, nothing would get done. All rich and you have no workers to do the work. But just like a fish tank, if the temperature is not balanced the fish die.

Poverty in America is treated like a crime instead of a condition.

I'd say it's because human nature is still inherently selfish, and society reflects it.

Duh, where do you think rich people get their money from.

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

This questions can't be answered in a post, it requires a book.

There are so many factors, personal physical and mental issues, cultural influences and economics, it is impossible to do the answer justice.

Depends which country you are talking about.
In some countries pretty much everyone is poor
In some countries its because education is expensive so only the wealthy kids get to go to school

In some countries its because they have so much social support that the poor don't need to work for money, so they don't, thus they stay poor.

Even with lots of opportunity, free education, lots of jobs etc, some people either don't have the intelligent, the confidence, the social skills or have got themselves knocked up young or are just plain lazy.

RE: Why do we have poor people?
Wealth leads to more wealth. Power leads to more power. So even if everyone is equal on the starting line, once someone gets ahead, he will try to use that advantage to get further ahead. The only way to keep this lead from getting too extreme is to ensure that those who have more wealth and power do not obtain special privileges, that everybody lives by the same rules, and that those with a lead are constantly competing with other who would knock them down.

The system falls apart, imo, because when certain people get ahead they fund political campaigns for politicians who ask for the power to redistribute wealth and pick winners or losers, and promise gullible voters to take wealth from those who are already ahead (ie those who are funding his campaign), and give it to those were left behind (who are not funding his campaign). Voters fall for it, give the politician the power he asks for, and surprise, surprise, his loyalties are actually to the wealthy people who funded his campaign—not the voters who game him the power—and he uses the power to subtly redistribute wealth the other way, giving special favors to the wealthy and powerful who are already in the lead. But, they're very careful to control the message so voters don't catch on.

This explains why after the 2008 financial crisis, voters overwhelming backed with hope and optimism leaders who promised to reign in the Wall Street tycoons, and help out the little guy. They did this, naturally, by printing trillions of dollars and giving it to the Wall Street tycoons, all the while telling the middle class that it was really for their good. And now the rich are richer than ever, the top 1% for the first time have 40% of the nations wealth, and the income and wealth gap are worse now than in the 18th and 19th centuries when we had slavery and a government that did nothing at all to equalize society. The government's "cure" to inequality is simply creating even more inequality.
