I remember there was a video game where you could upload the picture of someone's face you hated, and kill them. I think it was called The Sims.

They are fun and challenging. They're a great source of aggression and tension alleviation, an awesome time killer, and a great reflex and problem solving sharpener.

I've killed more digital Nazis than actually existed within the Wehrmacht, but I'd never actually shoot another person. I've killed 259,445 infected in Left 4 Dead 2 alone, and I have over 50,000 head-shots just with pistols in Killing Floor.

But it's all a game, and I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it.
