I play violent scenes in some games for the giggles. Yes

RE: Why do you play violent games?
I like to play games in general.
They don't have to be violent, but either way, I usually make them violent.

I mean like yeah I like shooting civilians in Skyrim and shouting horses off of cliffs.
But the things is.. I can make games like the Sims violent.
Usually what I do is:
-I play normally, just like other people usually do.
-I go to school or anywhere in real life
-when I get home, I create another Sim and name it after someone who pissed me off that day
-I put them in a room
-remove the door
-and watch them starve and piss everywhere and eventually die
It's wonderful.

Hmmmm.

Consider

Catching up with this thread, I am bewildered and disturbed by the thought that so many of you appear to enjoy playing GOD!

... and Legend seems to be the cruelest god.

Whoda thought.

No

What I also like to do is:
-play Medieval Sims
-you play as the queen
-create characters named after people you dislike
-summon them to the stocks or what i do...
- throw them into the dragon pit

or just for my entertainment I:
-find a hunter Sim
-find a bear
-lead them both into a room or enclosed area
-remove the hunter's weapons
-watch him/her get mauled to death, while laughing hysterically

Whether Legend is starving helpless Sims to death or I'm sniping civilians from the rooftops in Mercenaries (or strapping C4 to a bound man's back and detonating it); they're not living things. They're virtual beings. There is a disconnect that we recognize. The key word in "playing GOD" is "playing". It's understandable, psychologically, that we'd find these things disturbing; I concede to that fact. But in reality, because they're not real, there isn't really anything disturbing happening at all. It merely seems that way.

If these activities and the mindset which accompanies them is carried over into the real world, however, then we can start worrying. But plenty of us will torture and slaughter simulated game characters all day long, even though we abhor such things in real life. Again, the bewilderment is understandable, but when it comes down to it, if we're gonna be unsettled by torturing/killing virtual characters, we might as well be unsettled by throwing rocks at stumps or shooting cans with BB's.

Violent video games are challenging, they force you to think about your next step, it is a fabricated struggle that enables me to pit myself against rivals. That and it is fun and no one gets hurt. That is all anyone needs to say.

I said "I am bewildered and disturbed by the thought..."... that's a virtual bewilderment and disturbance.

But yes, I am more than unsettled that you would treat amputees that way.

Ohmy

And If I knew what a 'BB' was, I might be unsettled by that too.

If BB is Bilbo Baggins, don't tell Hobbitgirl ... it would unsettle her into an asylum.

RE: Why do you play violent games?
To answer the threads title and topic:

Why do I play violent video games?

Nowhere else can I lop my enemies head off with an axe, for crush his skull with a bat.

No way else for me to put my targets head in my scope at watch their head explode a second later.

I can mow down countless droves of civilians and soldiers without repercussion.

Or riddle a terrorist with bullets.

Or command my digital soldiers to die in the order of hundreds simply so that I may know victory.

I can be an absolute Paragon of Virtue, help all those in need. Or a the Vanguard of the Worlds Destruction, slaughtering thousands for nothing more than simple amusement as they try ineffectually to resist.

And any number of reasons. but my biggest reason of all:

It allows me to escape, if even for the briefest of moments, I can immerse myself in a world far from this and be at liberty to unleash all my pent up frustrations and rage at the AI, rather than the alternative of waiting to finally snap and go Postal.

A single action is worth more than the words it takes to describe it.
