RE: Why get a tattoo?
I have heavily tatooed arms and got my first at about 16.
That was back in the 50s and the parlours were hardly hygienic in those days.
Out of 'two arms full' though I only got one minor infection.
I suppose I wanted to express my manliness and one tat lead to another.
Back in those days a small swallow on the wrist cost round 50cents.

These days I note lots of girls are getting tats and I must say the designs
are much better than in the old days.
Would I do the same again? No!......well maybe just one!

RE: Why get a tattoo?
I've been contemplating a tattoo for years.

Something along the lines of this:

Or

Both have a lot of meaning to me. Same with "Just breathe".

I have two, a simple butterfly over a scar. It is to make a spot pretty that wasnt, and a reminder that I am no longer that person as I was when the injury occured. I have changed since then.

And a shamrock & hearts in memory of my Mom. Been thinking of getting one in memory of my Dad, and some for my kids but design and funds for new tats arent a priority at the moment.

RE: Why get a tattoo?
Hello - did someone say tattoos?

Yeah, I have five, not counting the full leg piece from my knee to my ankle...it was a piece that seem to take on a life of it's own...a tribute to my maternal grandfather and the place where I was born.

I have a breast cancer ribbon and the words 'approaching normal' on my inner forearm that I got on the one year anniversary of my mastectomies. I also have a vine around one ankle with the initials of my grandkids worked in as tendrils.

Still trying to figure out what to get to cover up my nasty mastectomy scars. Just haven't found the right thing yet. I'll know it when I see it, then I will adapt it to fit the scars and me.

I have a couple that are just flash and though I probably wouldn't get them again but I don't regret them either.

RE: Why get a tattoo?
90% of the tats I have seen on people are second-rate at best.
I don't have any, I'm not opposed to them.
If I was to get one, I'd make damn sure the artist was very good. I wouldn't want some fucked up mess on me forever just for the sake of having one.

Tattoos aren't the thing to bargain shop for.

My leg piece looks like a painting. It's awesome!
