Reassert that the Bible is the inspired word of God, just assert it louder. Dodgy

It's quite simple.

The King James Version of the bible was slapped together in 1642.

They haven't had an original thought since then.

You buy a book from Joel Osteen about how to raise your kids:

Your Best Life Now for Moms

#1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Joel Osteen revisits his seven core principles from YOUR BEST LIFE NOW to offer a guide to successful living for moms.
YOUR BEST LIFE NOW FOR MOMS will help women through the vast parenting responsibilities and teach them how God can pour out "His far and beyond favor" on them and their children.

Those private jets and limos aren't going to fall in his lap from the sky, Osteen needs your money to make those things a reality. Praise Jeebus!

And the pushback from a moderately prepared debater is always along the lines of, forget about the people who actually wrote it, they don't really matter, god was writing thru them. So what is their answer for why god doesn't write thru anyone now?

He does!!! Just ask Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, etc etc.

And sometimes god is too busy to write, so he just talks to people. Hobo

He probably uses Microsoft Word now. Can probably find the newer versions of the Bible on his OneDrive.

I'm fairly certain the inspired writings added to the bible in the future will include many new ways to take advantage of the gullible.

Stories to include Elvis, bigfoot riding a unicorn and how to flip that house with no money down.

I'm sure there will be some mention about priests and their "helping" young boys with their anatomy lessons.

New little cults that make up their own shit and or borrow from other books pop up all the time. Right now though, these bigger cults got the sheep where they want them.

No need to change if it's still working.

Yeah, seriously. Then you also have the people who believe in the rapture. They believe certain biblical passages "predicted" Hitler, 9/11, Holocaust etc. Of course, they totally ignore the fact that the passages were talking about something completely different(for example Antiochus IV Epiphanes and NOT Hitler)--but they just love to take the passages out of context. Christians will do anything to try and keep the Bible relevant.

RE: Why is there no new stuff in the bible?
In the 1980s US, I recall tv adverts telling people about "The Book" ... it appeared to contain stories about sex and violence, lots of war stories ... the "celebrities" touting this book, were all "visibly astonished" that these SO EXCITING stories were in The Bible?! The majority were saying, "I had no idea this was such a great read! You gotta check this out!"

Sometime after that, Dianetics had a big advert campaign as well. They went with the practical, self help angle.

The push to conformity was at full steam then so, for some it was a matter of choosing sides ... and a matter of someone or something taking credit for your satisfaction in life.

However practical or fantastic any story might be ... I've never been a "joiner". Although, I did own a "Mood Ring" at one time. Wink

So why aren't there any rules about internet porn, or microwaves, or how to discipline your bratty teen when he won't answer your texts? I understand that it's not practical for any group to try to add that; my question is surely xtians have been harangued about this. What is the standard defense?

Like why don't Christians add new books to the bible, that include new writings that address these various things? Or like why doesn't the old scriptures have foreknowledge of these developments?

I mean doesn't christianity have an entire cottage industry dedicated to churning out works and scriptures addressing a wide variety of things, from finance, to disciplining your children?

Nor before. You jest but you're more right than you think. No bible contains a single insight that was not well established common belief aeons prior to its being writ down. Writing didn't exist at all for most of our tenure on earth; being able to read is still not a universal capability. One of the most basic of absurdities attending belief in a bible as, say, a moral guide (or "the" moral guide, compounding the absurdity) is that it propounds that morality isn't possible without reading how to be moral from a bible. It presumes that no one can have an original thought.
