Why not just forgive us? It was not our fault in the first place.

I never thought of that.... good point!

For the same reason Peter Pan didn't shove poison down Tinkerbell's throat at the beginning of the play to start with just so that he could clap her back to life. It's bad storytelling.

Jobs.
It's about jobs for clerics who have no real marketable skills.

Look up on youtube the song by John Prine "Jesus the missing years" That fills in some of what he did during that time. It has an old black guy asking Jesus what he wants to be when he grows up and replies "God!"

RE: Why not kill Jesus as soon he's born?
Seems to me the authors wrote their accounts of the grown-up jebus and then got together to compare notes. Someone realized that nobody was going to believe this savior just popped into existence at the age of 30. So there were stories about him being a youngster with anger issues who threw a hissy fit in the temple throwing out the money changers.

Another review was done and the authors realized that there was still one hell of a gap in the story of this most important person. So, aha! A really good birth story that will tug at the heartstrings of the people. Poor family, birth in a barn with animals in attendance, add some magic (like a star 'cause they must not have existed prior), and throw in the Cinderella part by having some strangers show up with expensive and ridiculous baby gifts.

That'll distract the people. Let's not ever talk again about the decades left out of the timeline.

If the NT were written today no one would publish it. It's crap...it's one long 'fill in the blank' tale that is created by the reader and/or their preacher.

Exciting beginning, dramatic end...no substance in between.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

An abortion would have been the "right" thing to do.

She get's raped by an invisible non human creature, a monster which supposedly drove she-bears to massacre children and commanded armies to perform genocide and rape virgins and drowned almost all of humanity and life on earth.
