Why the irrational optimism?
You guys seem to be overly optimistic. Being overly optimistic isn't really any more rational than belief in some loving deity...

Would you like to explain?

There are "glass half full" people

There are "glass half empty" people

Everybody has their ups and downs, but even an empty glass is often times most useful.

I tend to identify more with nihilism than any other philosophy when it comes to the "true meaning" of life. So if there's no real meaning, why would I waste my existence being bummed about it?

Fuck it. Beyond all chances I'm here and I'm conscience and I get to enjoy what I can, so I do. What else is there?

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Striding towards better well being is rational. Optimism supports it.

This comment needs a science, courtesy of XKCD:

What if a glass of water was, all of a sudden, literally half empty?

Way I see it; that glass isn't half full or half empty; it's half drank and somebody needs to finish that job.
