RE: Why was today a good day thread
Today I took a tumble while we were setting a gang plank up onto a barge for access, and killed my phone and lost my wallet in the process. I hired a diver for $100 to try and find it in 35' of water, no luck.
Good day?
Yes, I fell about 10 feet to some nice unobstructed water, and did not hit anything. A 10 foot fall to a solid tire fender would not differ much from a fall to the ground. In short, I was very lucky.

RE: Why was today a good day thread
I had my first rainbow in Rio yesterday...

"Però lo si vede – questo è il male –
soltanto dopo il temporale*.
Non sarebbe più conveniente
il temporale non farlo per niente?
Un arcobaleno senza tempesta,
questa sì che sarebbe una festa.

Sarebbe una festa per tutta la Terra
fare la pace prima della guerra...."

After the rain comes the sun,
the rainbow shines in the sky:
it’s like a bridge with a flag,
and the sun crosses it, and is celebrated.
It’s nice to turn your head up and look
at its red and blue flags.

However, we can see it – that’s the bad thing –
only after a storm.
Wouldn’t it be more expedient
to not have the storm at all?
A rainbow without a storm,
that would be something to celebrate.

It would be something for the whole Earth to celebrate,
making peace before making war.

(I will, also, not have to leave Rio in February (even if just for a couple of weeks or so), which is also good, even if I do miss the friends I was going to see... maybe March or April...)

* It's a metaphor, obviously, I love thunderstorms, too.

As example of Soviet Union proved there are no irreplaceable people...

Seriously though, congratulations.

You will be hard pressed to find one as except from me all other Poles here were socks or one post wonders. Or they weren't even Poles. Who knows?

I am under no illusion that I'm ever going to see the world and the people around me realise that I'm truly irreplaceable Angel

It was just an offhand comment to take care of myself when I told them I've been having fainting, foaming at the mouth fits all over Rio.

(well, just the once and there was no foam, as far as I am aware, but if we can't embellish the story of our own life, what's even the point of telling it... Rolleyes )
