Ah the burden of the BanHammer. I've seen it fell bigger men than you (not that there are many men around here smaller than you). You got a chance because of Navy discipline and shit, and you've wielded it well along with the crazy Aussie chick so far, but be careful the corrupting power of the BanHammer don't eventually get to you. If it can turn the HellboundPreacher from a nice funny guy into a raging antitheist asshole, it can turn anyone. Don't think the crazy Aussie chick will have a problem though. I'm of the opinion that only women should wield the BanHammer. It targets and feeds off testosterone. ... Consider ... come to think of it you might have an advantage over most men wrt that as well. Some of you obviously hate our decision to not immediately permaban the clown. I understand it. Hopefully, most of you also understand that forum governance has nothing to do with how I feel, nor how anyone feels. I act in accordance with the forum rules, and for good reason. I feel it is my duty to treat all members equally under the rule of forum law regardless of personal feelings. I do my best to achieve that - and when forum rules are broken, there are consequences. Sometimes that means doing what is unpopular; or more accurately, not doing what is popular. A couple of members in this thread have stated in so many words that they feel like it is "Us vs. Them". I do not share that feeling, because like all of you, this is my place too. I am a member of this community, and I care what happens to it. It is why I am here, and I don't like it when folks cause division either. I hope most of you understand even when you disagree.

RE: Wicked Clown
Sure, I can explain. People are rarely banned based on a single action. Normally the member in question is given increasingly harsher punishments with a permanent ban being the last action taken. Rule five is by it's nature not black and white rule. Judgement calls are needed, so clarifying it in black and white terms is impossible.
To answer specifically:

Posted explicit smileys - He was warned for this

Made gross jokes about a banned topic - He was punished for this.

Caused unending arguments all over the forum - Not necessarily a violation of our rules (for example, racism has done the same thing in the forum in the past).

Driven forum members away - What you are referring to happened as a result of something done before he arrived here and on a different forum.

I hope it's clear that I wasn't talking about somebody assuming you are gay, or hitting on you. I was talking about somebody insisting you are gay after you have told them you are not.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.
