A friend described Wales as, "Bumpy, wet and covered in sheep."

Yeah, but you get a proper winter. We mostly get cold rain instead of not-so-cold rain!

Dampens the spirits as well as the clothes.

Almost half way around the world, in Portland Oregon, we get rain too. And then we get more rain. Then misty rain. Then it rains some more. Then it drizzles, then it rains. The sun is nowhere to be seen for months at a time.

Don't laugh but I have actually done this very thing.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Winter is the time of the year, when the sun rises at 9:00 and sets at 16:00. Weeping

That's depressing. Sad

Due to daylight savings, sometimes the sun sets as early as 18:00, but usually during 'winter' we get until 19:00.

RE: Winter is coming!
The thing with Portland weather is that it's a constant shade of gray. The Rainy Season (yes, people capitalize it sometimes) starts in October and ends in late May. The rainfall here averages around 34 inches a year so it's not a huge amount but it's this wimpy drizzly sort of rain with dark gray clouds that hang around all the time. I wish it would just pour and get it over with...but noooOOOOOoooo.....it sputters and and spurts and mists.

Today it's a beautiful sunny day but I know what's coming. We average 222 cloudy days a year. Sadcryface Blink Sadcryface2 Weeping

I gotta gear up for days like this....

Well, central Germany is at latitudes comparable to southern Canada/ border to the USA. It is in fact a bit depressing after 3 months or so. During that time basically everybody drives to work at night and returns back home at night, no matter what your job is. Sadcryface

The average age in Michigan goes down by 3 years......

This is inaccurate. The weather in Wisconsin is pretty much the same as the weather in Michigan. We just get it a few hours earlier.

ETA: Today, though, it feels a bit nicer in Wisconsin, given the results of this weekend's football games. Go Badgers! Go Packers!
