Margaret Hartmann —Wisconsin Governor Pushes To End Hospital Visitation For Gay Couples

If you weren't convinced Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is heinous by that time he tried to strip teachers, firefighters, social workers, and other government employees of their collective bargaining rights, this should do it: Now he's fighting to make it so gay people can't visit their partners in the hospital.

Walker wants the state to stop defending its domestic partner registry on the grounds that it isn't constitutional. Some background from the Associated Press:

Members of the conservative group Wisconsin Family Action filed a lawsuit last summer arguing the registry violates the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage. Former Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat who proposed the registry as a means of granting same-sex couples more legal rights, chose to defend the measure and had filed a motion asking Dane County Circuit Judge Daniel Moeser for summary judgment upholding it. Walker, a Republican, inherited the case from Doyle when he took office in January.

Given the citizen population elect their leaders into office, I think the people of Wisconsin have every right to sue and demand this Governor be put through an independent (of his influence or control) psychiatric battery of tests to ascertain whether or not he's fit for office. Seriously! Angry

Every time I hear news like this, I find it hard to beleive that I am living in the twenty first century. You normally hear even some of the most conservative fundlementalist concede that Gays should have visitation rights, it's just the marriage thing that gets their panties all in a bunch. It really is sickening to see this guy pander too such a small group.

It is always nice to see that each generation is more and more tolerant of Gays, even among the fundlementalist. It won't be long until parents will be foced to make excuses to their children why they were against gay rights just as parents had to explain why they were for segregation

I think he will find that pissing off state civil service workers and Gays will be more than enough to ensure him a single term.

Every time I hear more homophobic crap, It reminds of a little known study conducted fifteen years back. They interviewed men on their acceptance of Gays and divide them into two groups: those who were tolerant and those who were not. They then attached little blood pressure cuffs to their penises and showed them gay porn. The men who had been the most vocal with their hatred for gays, had the most blood flow. No big surprise.

I tried sourcing this but the best I could do was this link. I heard Dr. Dean Eddell, a well know MD and Atheist skeptic cite this on his radio show years back.

One of the reporters that next interviews, if it happens, this governor about his absurd stance on gay rights to visit in hospitals, should bring up that very study while in a live broadcast of the event. I'd love to see that.

So, Governor, is the reason you're so openly vocal about revoking equal rights to homosexuals because you are in the closet as one, yourself?

Just think of the ratings jump, as the Governors security team tazed the reporter on live TV.

I think I speak for just about everyone in Canada when I say... people of Wisconsin, if you get tired of all that crap you're welcome here.

We all enter this world in the same way: naked; screaming; soaked in blood. But if you live your life right, that kind of thing doesn't have to stop there.

I'm pretty sure that my memory is correct that J. Edgar Hoover was "anti-gay" also.

As for governor dimwit, I wonder who's left to visit HIM in the hospital? The group shrinks daily!

I lived for over 25 years in the US. Montana, Idaho, Oregon and California. Now another 20 in Canada. It has its problems too, and I'm sure America still varies as much from state to state as when I lived there. But, when things get as bad as they seem to be getting in Wisconsin I think the people there would be wise to exit, at least for a while.
