RE: Woman on trial for laughing during Sessions confirmation hearing
Here is a link to the video of the arrest and some comment / commentary on it.

Apparently other people laughed and weren't arrested, now and at other times, and it didn't interrupt or impede the hearings. My guess is this is just done for harassment purposes and will quietly go nowhere at the end of the day.

From the videos I've seen, it was her disgusting behaviour as the security guys tried to remove her—rightfully—from the chamber. Resisting, shouting loudly, waving a placard, and having to be physically carried out sure ain't seemly or appropriate behaviour in my book. It's people like repeat offender Fairooz that give other peaceful protesters a bad name.

—I'd lock her up too.

Except that's not right. She faces 2 charges. The first for “disorderly and disruptive conduct intended to impede, disrupt, and disturb the orderly conduct of congressional proceedings" was for the laugh. Her lawyer has plenty of video evidence of the crowd laughing in response to Session's jokes which I guess means it's okay to laugh with him but not at him. That just makes me laugh at him even harder. Big man, pig man, haha charade you are.

The second misdemeanor charge was for "parading, demonstrating or picketing within a Capitol" for her actions as she was being escorted from the room. They are both ridiculous and are going to be dismissed if they ever get in front of a judge. Prosecutors boxed themselves into a corner because there's no way she's pleading out to a couple of bogus misdemeanor charges with minimal penalties when she can get front page headlines. And the prosecutor can't drop it now without looking like an even bigger idiot. Like I said, morons.

Um... y'all are debating the validity of the charges, and whether or not it will "quietly go nowhere" ...

...but she was already convicted, days ago.

Thought I had read that, somewhere. I also listened to the video, and that laugh is a lot less than I have interjected at meetings, and I wasn't arrested. I don't think she should serve any time for this horseshit, and should be free while she appeals. This isn't some country behind the Iron Curtain, FFS.

Not yet, but this is a step in that direction I'm afraid.

I'll take the enlightened side, thankyouverymuch.
