Woof's fading memory.
My computer has been topping up it's virtual memory for some time now.
I think it is all but gone.
Any advice re a cheap and sturdy lap top?

You got ebay? I've bought two laptops on ebay; both were in excellent condition, both were really inexpensive.

This post is being composed on the first of those two laptops. Thumbsup

Dell Precision M4300, Windows XP Pro, 2GB memory, 320GB HDD, WUXGA screen (1920x1200). US$160.

I have since made it Windows 7 Pro, 4GB memory, 750GB HDD.

Edit: Here you go. Even cheaper.

Just be careful browsing ebay that you don't get ripped off. Make sure you understand the specs and compare them to models you can find on dell.com or the like. Used computers are often overpriced, so I would suggest avoiding them.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

I got my laptop on TigerDirect for a lil over $200, like $230 or somewhere around there. Comes with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Home Premium. 80 GB Hard Drive, 2.20 GHz Dual Core Processor and 2GB Ram with 2 slots so you can add more Ram in the future.

Why is this in the support section?

My experience on ebay is that there are companies that take computers that have come off lease and sell them. The ones I have dealt with have high ratings and the prices are reasonable for reconditioned equipment that is warranted. I wouldn't likely buy from some random person.

As I said, I have gotten two systems that have been as advertised and excellent value.
