RE: Worldometers
I have heard Canada described as a democratic socialism. If a country can adopt a few positive socialist traits and leave the negative ones out, it can create a better enviorment for it's people. This is a bit of a balancing act, but all government systems are balancing acts of one kind or another. The USA has been so shit scared of the words socialism and communism that they turned them into devils without taking the time to understand what they really are. The democratic system has it's flaws, too. One flaw is that if you steal from John to give to Tom you will always get Tom's vote. None of these systems are all good or all bad. They all have different flaws, different strengths and weaknesses. Taking the best traits of them and leaving the worst traits out and you can create something good.

When I find myself in times of trouble, Richard Dawkins comes to me, speaking words of reason, now I see, now I see.

I'm sorry. You have me confused. Did you just say that a social democracy is not a democracy? Huh

RE: Worldometers
No, I meant that a social democracy is a democracy that employs aspects of a socialism within its system without actually being a socialist state. I re-read my last post and can't figure out what I said that gave you that idea. I guess I am not being as clear as I would like to be.

RE: Worldometers
A social democracy IS a socialist state. Just like a capitalist democracy is a capitalist state. whether a state is capitalistic or socialistic has nothing what so ever to do with whether or not it is a democracy. Its like saying that a fish is fast, even though it is blue. The to adjectives are not mutually exclusive, and in fact they have nothing to do with each other.

RE: Worldometers
I stand corrected. Politics is not a strong point for me as I have just demonstrated. I always thought that to be a socialist state the country must be totally socialist. Canada has socialists elements in its make-up but it isn't a totally socialist state by any means. It is a mixture of socialism and free enterprize, which in my opinion, is neither a true socialist state nor a free enterprize state. It is a mixture. At least that is the way I saw it. Am I wrong about that or did our communications err a bit?
