Let's see. If I recall correctly you and wifey make like $75000/year combined with a couple of kids. Do you pay $7500/year in federal taxes? Do you think you will miss that $7500 more than I will miss my $16000? But hey you can always work 2 jobs so you can be like Bob and won't miss the extra $8500.

I would gladly hand over a $7,500 check to the government if I knew that everyone else was handing over their 10% as well. Hell, 10% might even be too high. If they didn't have to issue tax returns any more they could probably just tax us all at 5%.

Taxes should be the same for everyone. There's no sliding scale of life. I don't go to the grocery store and pay 8% sales tax but you have to pay 15% sales tax because you have more money than me.

So now you are comparing income taxes to consumption taxes. Apples meet oranges.

I worked for $70-80K for 5 years with a wife at home and 4 kids and I know that come 15 APR I would not have had been able to come up with $750 to pay The Man, let alone $7500.

Haha Okay. What about property taxes? Are they not regressive? Are they regressive in Maryland? Is it fair that you pay 2% property tax on a $400,000 home and your neighbor pay 2% on his $200,000 home?

Only if I have made $200K property improvements more than my neighbors (which by the way is a very stupid thing to do). This has already happened to me. Property taxes are neither progressive or regressive. They are essentially a consumption tax. Fortunately I know how to take on The Man. Went into the county clerk's office with a bunch of comps around me and list of amenities at $250K and me without many of those improvements at $320K. They readjusted my tax assessment to be comparable to my neighbors.

I think the biggest problem with US tax code is that it is too complicated for my social security/medicare/food stamp dependent/welfare 70yo mom to have any fucking clue what the fuck to do. US taxes are biased in favor of people who know how to work the game. My mum don't have a clue what game she's even playing or even that she is part of a game. That's what she's got me and Manly for.

GirlyMan. Playing The Man going on 4 decades.

The only thing Donald Trump has ever put first in his life is Donald Trump. In second place...Donald Trump. A distant third Ivanka and Donald Jr.
