Possibly. Possibly not. For all their know-how, and engineering arts lost to time, I'd be willing to bet it was still a horde of slaves that slapped all the bricks where their Engineer masters commanded. Actually have to PAY your workers to build, you might run out of aureus, denarius, and sestertius. No new engineering feats, and no more 'free' upkeep on the old, it may have all been forgotten, anyway.

No, half of the Roman Empire never collapsed. Rome's new capital became Constantinople.

1500 years of continued empire and we are still using Nazi technology for everything. Our species is screwed, lol
