RE: Yahweh: A Volcano Mountain GOD of Fire and War
You know, Moses must have been as high* as a kite when he came down from that volcano after having spent 6 weeks in its fumes! So it shouldn't surprise anybody that he was ranting and raving and proclaiming all kinds of nonsense like a madman. Because that's what he effectively was at that point! So he can claim at least temporary insanity. Which puts everything he said and did from that point onwards – including the 10 Commandments – into quite a different perspective, doesn't it? Big Grin

*The oracle of Delphi was essentially the same shit: one of the priestesses – or 'shamans' if you will – sat with her crack on a crack in the rocks from which volcanic fumes rose and intoxicated the priestess. She got the buzz. She got high. And then she proceeded to utter all kinds of mystical and magical – 'divine' – bullshit that everybody ate up as messages from the gods.
Of course from those rituals sprouted a whole industry of interpretors of those divine messages: the 'priesthood'. A.k.a. the church. Which therefore has a vested interest in keeping the 'divine messages' mystical and unintelligible to 'normal people' and therefore in need of interpretation. Which is their bread and butter. Their income. Their livelihood. Their justification for sitting on their asses doing nothing but bullshitting people.

If you can call abusing little boys 'nothing'.

Methane can cause hallucinations, but at such dosages, if you are getting such., is just as likely to kill you. But the more likely case is that it's made up by the Charlatan professing it. However, lets not forget that Exodus is not the only section in the bible to which the OP covers.. Hence, if it were only matter of being in Exodus, I would probably have dismissed the notion of Yahweh being a Volcano / Mountain GOD of Fire and War. So either everyone is severely high, acting, or they actually believe in it all.

And this is the best answer to that I have found thus far:

Quote:Or they were just making shit up. Oracles may have had some mystical or religious purpose in ancient societies, but to be an ongoing institution, you have to have a sustainable income. The Oracle of Delphi wasn't a single person -- it was an institution. There were likely any number of women who played the role, probably at the same time. It's unlikely that they would all react the same to any chemical agents misting about the place. It's also unlikely they would act consistently if they were mentally ill. To sustain the business of the Oracle, the practitioners would need to do what psychics and palm readers and the like do today -- use what information they can glean from the source, put on a good show and make the prophesies obtuse enough that they could be interpreted however the mark wishes to do so.

RE: Yahweh: A Volcano Mountain GOD of Fire and War
I have updated and moved the articles.. New information on the subject, and of course I moved the articles to Wordpress since Neswsvine's face lift on Feb 7th utterly sucked. So if you haven't read the articles prior, you might enjoy them. However, if you have read them already, there is new information on Yahweh's origin's.. There is also another update coming soon as I further explored how the Hyksos may have played a role in the evolution of this Deity. So here are the new locations / updated articles:

Cheers!

PS.

Look this coming Monday - Wed for the 3rd Part to this series of articles.. It will be titled Yahweh: The Rock Of Israel
