What I was proposing was a possible scenario where someone other than a burglar might enter with a gun.

If a cop enters my home, my chances of getting shot still go up. Not because I do anything illegal, but because I don't trust cops to have competent training. For all I know, the bird might holler out, "I'm going to kill that motherfucking pig," because he heard it on TV, and the cop draws his weapon.
As of June 30 there were 66 people killed in the USA. That's out of 330,000,000+ people.

By the police? For the year?

According to the Washington Post US police have shot and killed 559 people to date in 2017.

As of June 30, the first six months of the year. That includes all deaths, if the lunatic who gave me the data is correct. "Justified", "unjustified", "accidental", "unclear", etc. weren't broken down, because he didn't like the "unjustified" number I guess.

Yeah, I dropped a "6" from the Reverends numbers. Seems he was ahead of the Washington Post. Never thought he'd be truthful with his numbers. Anywho, that reduces the 1/110,000,000 to .7/110,000,000. Anybody know how that compares to other causes of death?

You obviously chose to ignore my PubMed link to this site: Gun ownership and firearm-related deaths. which negates your claims with empirical evidence to the contrary. More to the point, is there any reason you haven't responded to this evidence about an increase in shooting deaths with relation to gun ownership? Or is it that you can't defend the indefensible, or maybe you think that the AMJM paper I cited is erroneous in its methodology or conclusions?

Quote:As far as suicide.... Nobody "cries for help" by sticking a gun in their mouth and lighting one off.... People who commit suicide by firearm are fucking serious about it... Just get out of the way, or you'll get brains on your shoes.... It's better than having them step off a high building and landing on some hapless schmuck who didn't plan on checking out today.

And yet another straw man! Nobody's talking about suicide here—except you. You're obviously trying to distract our debate about household firearms as a deterrent, or otherwise, against armed home intrusions in order to push your erroneous beliefs about the subject.

Actually, I was talking about suicide.

And here is a recent selfie:

We need a citation for this claim. According to This Guardian site there have been 1,093 deaths by cop to date in the US.

1093 was the Guardian's number for all of 2016. It includes deaths from reasons other than gun shots. The Washington Post lists 559 people that have died so far this year after being shot by the police.
