I am left to assume Dodgy ... I should overlook this necro-posting...

I was thinking ... Consider ... isn't all of humanity directly descended from a single female?

Mitochondiral Eve:
Quote:In the field of human genetics, the name Mitochondrial Eve refers to the matrilineal most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of all currently living anatomically modern humans, who is estimated to have lived approximately 100,000–200,000 years ago. This is the most recent woman from whom all living humans today descend, on their mother’s side, and through the mothers of those mothers, and so on, back until all lines converge on one person.

Mitochondrial Eve is estimated to have lived between 99,000 and 200,000 years ago, most likely in East Africa, when Homo sapiens sapiens (anatomically modern humans) were developing as a population distinct from other human sub-species.

Ha, thanks. Just hadda go look it up now. She's not the ultimate Mama, she just the most recent common female ancestor of all humans, if I'm reading it right.

Indeed. Every population will have a most recent common ancestor. That's inevitable statistics. This does not mean they have a single ultimate common ancestor.

I remember PleaseJesus once being confused staggeringly dishonest about just that point.
