Your Favorite Band?
For me, it'd have to be Pink Floyd as overall favorite. I'm not wild about every song and every album, but at their best I don't think there's anyone who can touch them quite frankly. David Gilmour's guitar-playing is always graceful and powerful, Roger Waters' songwriting is irreverent, bleak, engaging, but also sometimes very hopeful. Rick Wright's organ work was truly breath-taking, and Nick Mason has always been one of my favorite drummers mainly for having the courage to NOT attempt to sound like either John Bonham, Ginger Baker, or Keith Moon, lol. Of course there's also Syd Barrett's stylistic contribution and tragic life trajectory to add to the band's mystique and "aura" for lack of a better term. I prefer the post-Syd stuff personally, I think his best contributions lay in what he inspired the others to do after he left. But I can't deny having Syd as a writer and frontman in the early days certainly set them apart from other UK bands of the day, and started them down a path they might never have found without him.

There are other bands who have meant more to me at certain times in my life, but I always come back to Floyd, I can always find inspiration in it.

For the purposes of the thread, I'm talking specifically about BANDs, as opposed to solo artists or acts. I love me some Bob Dylan or David Bowie too, but that's not really what I'm looking for here.

This is a tough one as Floyd is one of my great pleasures but I'd have to say Steely Dan.

I guess if you go by the number of CD's I have (yeah still in the stone age) I'd give a nod to AC/DC.

RE: Your Favorite Band?
Depends on my mood. I can't claim to like one band over another -- it's too narrowing.

Could be one day Pink Floyd. Another day I'm looking at Jethro Tull or listening to Physical Graffiti by Zeppelin. Other days, it may be Aerosmith, Black Sabbath or something else.

A week or so ago, I was on a Rush kick...2112.

A few days ago, I was listening to Yes Songs (on vinyl of course) That's a great album. Then I started digging through my record collection and dug out Live at Leeds by The Who...

I also recently listened The Swing of Delight by Santana -- that album is so underrated, and that led me to listen to Inner Secrets...

Yesterday, I was singing along to the Dead.

Then, like today it's Dave Brubeck (Take 5 is just awesome)...

Hmmm... at least I have heard of the bands mentioned by other people. I am going to show my age here: my favorite band has always been, and still is ... The Beatles. Although nowadays, I'm more likely to listen to classical or jazz than any pop music. For the last week or so, Bartok has been in heavy rotation.

Of course I'll forever Love the Beatles...

It's funny, I became very bored with music for a long while...then I "discovered" jazz. Now, I'll admit, I'll listen to something like Traffic and hear clearly the jazz influence. It reinvigorated my love of music. Smile

More recently classical has been a go to of mine, just to sit, relax to...

I remember there was a better quality video for this... but it'll have to do Big Grin

Anyway, for me... It depends like the others have said, but although I don't like everything the Queen did (with Freddie), the ones I like are the best of the best. I also like me some Guns N' Roses, Dire Straits, and also newer stuff like P.O.D. and yes, Linkin Park (mostly the Hybrid Theory album though).

Recently I got to know Dream Theater and there is one song I really like, so much that it entered my Official Shower Playlist. Tongue
