Schindler's List is so fucking boring.

American Gangster (because it's top3 movies of all time).
If that's not historic enough for you, Red Cliff 1/2.

Bread and Roses

Gandhi

Fictional, but a great period piece,
The Grapes of Wrath

The French Revolution is such a rich topic, I don't know why there aren't more movies about it. Most of the ones I've seen are really romances set during the revolution. Danton is in French, but the Blu Ray has an English language track. The Criterion Collection DVD does not, but it is subtitled.

Glory, Band of Brothers (mini-series), and Black Hawk Down are the only ones that come to mind. In general, historical films are either too slow for me, like Schindler's List, or are injected with too much bias or fantasy, like Red Cliff, so I don't like them as historical films. Though for entertainment value alone I can still enjoy the biased/fantastical films.

If something can be destroyed by the truth, it might be worth destroying.

Damn you to hell! You took my favorite movie. But I like it only because Peter O'Toole's eyes were so amazing. Well, it's a great story too. But those eyes....sigh.... They are as blue as the bluest water and he's surrounded by that sand. Great casting.

I also liked Becket again with Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton. The drinking on the film is legendary and they look like they were having a great time making the film. Oh, I liked the historical side of it too.

Hey! Lets take a look at Peter O'Toole's eyes, shall we......

I wonder, are the Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers based on real events? I am not so sure.

But To Hell and Back is not only based on real life events, the main actor is the real life person the movie is based upon and that is the most decorated soldier in WW2.
