Glory (1989)

"Glory is a celebration of a little-known act of mass courage during the Civil War. Simply put, the heroes involved have been ignored by history due to racism. Those heroes were the all-black members of the 54th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, headed by Col. Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick), the son of an influential abolitionist."

An excellent historical representation and movie.

"If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story." Orson Welles

On a more serious note: Das Boot, The Right Stuff and Roots.

On a less serious note: Cannibal! The Musical.

RE: Your Favorite History Based Movies
I really wish they would re-release the full version of Red Cliff in the states. There's just too many people that don't know what it is and have missed out on a truly awesome war epic.

I can thank Dynasty Warriors for introducing me to my love of the three kingdom era in China. Now if only HBO would launch a Romance of the Three Kingdoms TV saga or some studio would get the ball rolling on more RotTK films I'd be thrilled.
