I put stars next to the thingGs I have no, or very little interest in. The more stars the greater my level of disinterest. Rap and Hip hop? East Asian music? Bikes? Toys? Computer games? Google must think I am a 11 year old boy.

um ya sure I'll go with google's list. Angel

Yup. Pretty sure. Last time I was on a bike would have been a good 25 years ago. I loath hip hop, don't need a new car. The list is just so weird. Nothing about news or current affairs or the stock market or any mention of the main websites I go to. Maybe I have an 11 year old boy living in my attic who sneaks out to use the computer while everyone is asleep.

I was actually kinda concerned. But after seeing my list...ya, sure I'll go with that Smile

If you go into the ads settings on your google account (above link) there is a section called "interests". You can expand the list by clicking "edit" and see all the things that google thinks you like.

Well in my case, Google seems to know exactly what I like.

But they forgot all the porn.

I don't know if I care about all this. With the things I've been searching, writing and uploading the last 10 years, I should be terrified, but what's the worst that can happen?

RE: Your digital footprint and privacy
I got seriously burnt by posting personal stuff on usenet back in the mid-90's and with my unique name (literally unique) it kept coming up in google searches. I didn't know at the time that posts were being archived by deja-news.

It's not so much of a problem any more, especially as I have tried opening accounts on as many websites as possible and used my name in a positive way so if anything does surface again it will require several pages to reach. It meant that I had to join sites like facebook though.

I'm paranoid about revealing my identity on-line now though. There's already talk about automated software that can recognise the same person behind different accounts due to their writing style and what they talk about.

I did consider changing my surname when I got married last May but my publications are in my maiden name.

That link just wants me to update my browser Angry

Doesnt matter, I'm an open book all over the internet, I dont care who knows what about me and I aint trying to hide it either. There are some things that just shoudnt be talked about, ever, either in person or on the net.

Everything else is fair game I guess.

Blackmail wont work on me, and anyway, I dont have enough money to become a mark. Tongue

When I'm on porn sites I use DLJ's personal info and credit card, and they sure seem to treat me like a king when they see who "I" am. Consider

Could you pm me the security code? The website was taken down before I managed to copy and paste all the details.
