I distinctly remember thinking it was a movie...there was no way real people, people like me, were in the middle of those explosions...

I also remember the radical changes in the aviation industry. As a military family we moved a lot and went on tons of trips, so flying slowly became more and more of a hassle.

Was on leave in D.C. at the time and had been in NY the day before. My leave got cancelled and driving back to base, passing through NY on the way and seeing the smoke still rising the next day, knowing shit was only beginning to hit the fan, was an interesting feeling.

Makes me wonder if media penetration hasn't really affected how kids grow up, you know? At the risk of sounding very "back in my day", when you didn't have the news-cycle and the Internet's social media, we went out and played ... and perhaps grew up slower?

You may have a point here.
Kids have more access to info, but also the influence of a lot of *noise* enshrouding said info. I definitely dont envy them for this.

"Because he's the President."

"But we already saw it lots and lots of times. You said you'd take me outside to play...remember, Mommy? Mommy? Mommy? Awww...Mommy, why do they keep showing this? Can we go outside now?"

My father used to do this daily, whether or not there was anything interesting happening. He would watch every news show he could find. I remember visiting my parents one time, and after he had already watched half a dozen newscasts, he reached for the remote and said "Let's see if there's any news on." I wanted to scream.

I got home from work four am, stayed up 'til six, and arose at eleven to watch that awful footage on every channel.

I remember hearing a rumor that Donald Trump had been elected president.
Since then, everything that came before or after has been kind of dim . . .

That's only fitting. After all, he's kind of dim.
