RE: Your funeral
Part me out, and if you could toss the rest on a compost pile I'd be OK with that. This could be disturbing for the people left behind.
I just thought of an alternative, a reciprocal compost pile system. Toss me on somebody else's compost pile, and then agree to take a corpse on your pile in return.
The reality is, I'll be cremated and there will be a party with music and food and dancing.

I read that cremation isn't as environmentally great as it sounds. I think they use a lot of chemicals? Something like that. I can't remember. Maybe someone else knows.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Donating my body to science.

No funeral, no memorial, nothing.

No, unless you count oxygen and methane. They just roast you until there is nothing left except what won't burn. I've considered cremation, but I'm leaning towards donating whatever chunks are worth anything for science, and then being planted in a grove. While I realize that the earth will be inside the sun's photosphere in some large number of years, I'd like to reduce my contribution to the carbon footprint by just being buried, unenbalmed, say, under a tree. That's a pile less energy-consuming. Leave that much CO2 out of the atmosphere.

As far as a funeral goes, I've been collecting things that I'd like to have said, after I'm gone. Solace and/or torment for the survivors, they can take it as they will. Angel

I'm going to be a tree.

Cremated, ground fine and substituted for a certain politician's non-dairy creamer. There's more than one way to do a haunting.

Not how you die, you silly troll, how you are buried. Try again.

You missed the point there, EH. He's saying that he wants to be unceremoniously trampled and squelched into the EPDM-surfaced, ISO-approved protective rubber ground like grapes pressed between the toes of wage-slave bare-foot urchins as a pseudo-performance-art metaphor simultaneously demonstrating the carefree and callous brutality of small children juxtaposed with the modern post-Rousseau politically-correct adult-designed utopia of a literal safe space.

... because that's "what the world is really like". As Hobbes pointed out, children are "brutal, nasty and short".

It's a tradition we do in my family. We have a party and celebrate the life of the person who passed away. Lots of drinking and eating and telling funny stories and heartfelt remembrances of the person.

I went to a kinda Irish wake on Wednesday. In the 2016 thread, I made a quip about what to wear... him being Irish (tradition = black) but his wife being Malay Buddhist (tradition = white) and considered wearing both like a pint of Guinness.

Weird to see my friend/rival lying there in silence ... cos in life, you could never stop the ol' bastard talking!

To my delight, Kerry's 15 year-old son (who organised it) wore a Guinness t-shirt. Kudos. Bowing

Next week will be the service for my brother-out-law ... they're hiring a friggin' castle! because, I'm told, they wanted to keep the numbers down (yes, you read that right).

That's style Yes

But then, he was the president of the largest union in the UK. The symbolism of using a feudal relic for someone who strived, with genuine humility and love, for a socialist utopia tickles me more than it should.

Big Grin
