Zeke's list of bugs you should let in or near house.
Bugs are awesome. If you don't like them, too bad. Now let me give you a list of a few bugs that you should keep in your house.

1. Spiders

Now spiders do one thing right, and that is kill bugs that you don't like. Spiders like this jumping spider here is good at eating flies. Some spiders can hunt, others wait. Either way a spider is a great free pest control. Some spiders can get out of control or be to much of a risk for people with kids(i.e the black widow), but some spiders will eat them.

2. centipedes

These things are the bug equivalent of Jason Vorhees. Despite that, they won't harm you if you stay out of their way. These guys will kill and eat any bug, even dangerous ones like scorpions. So don't step on this guy if ya see him.

3. House centipedes

This one is more harmless than our last centipede, but it isn't as charming. So unless you are in japan or the hood, I would stick with the normal one.

4. Mantis

[Image: preying-mantis-green-light-Jan-2013.jpg]

If you get one of these guys in your house, try to keep it. They can tackle anything, even deadly spiders.

5. Ladybug

Seriously why not?

6. Bumblebees

They pollinate flowers and don't sting, why not?

7. Wasp

Now hear me out. Wasp are something you should be careful around. However if you leave it alone you can keep it around. They usually go solo, and plus they are great hunters. Think of them as the Micheal Myers of the bug world. He only has certain targets so don't get in the way.

8. Ground Beatles

[Image: Ground%20Beetle%20-%20Pterostichus%20madidus.jpg]

These beetles are great in the garden.

9.Predator mites(specifically phytoseiulus persimilis)

See what this guy is eating? He is eating a spider mite. These are the little soldiers that well help eat your homes little terrorist.

10. Assassin bugs

Again here me out. These guys are great for the garden, as they are silent and deadly. They will catch anything.

I can hear some of you guys say these things:

"My pet can catch bugs"

Good luck with that. Ants for example are pretty much unliked by cats. Dogs don't care much for them either. So unless you have a little lizard you are going to have to try harder. On top of that, bugs hide in places your pets and you won't see them, but the bugs can.

"I will use bug spray for my garden"

Sure I mean you can spend money on bug spray, or use the bugs which are free. Use that saved money to get your self something cool.

"I hate bugs"

I hate taxes, yet they benefit society. You may hate bugs, but these bugs will help you get rid of bad ones.

Point being, there are many good bugs in the world. Next time you see a centipede think this, it is either the centipede or some other bug that would ruin my garden or spread disease? Your choice Smile

I don't actively eradicate anything but ant hills that are too close to the house. Everybody else gets a pass. Loves me those jumping spiders, had some cool encounters with them over the years. One dropped a fly he was carting up a chair, and I handed it back to him with a pin. I swear he looked at me, and the fly, and then took it. They have remarkable vision.

Well they have too. I am also surprised we have not tried to domesticate jumping spiders like we have tarantulas.

I like my bugs. I have all kinds of them in the garden, and they keep each other in check. I also have all kinds of different birds hanging out there all day, eating bugs. I use no pesticides, ever.

The only thing I have issues with is fungus, on roses and squash plants. Haven't figured out how to deal with that yet.

Oh, and last year some paper wasps built a nest right outside my window so I watched them a lot. The hummingbirds would come by and want to stick their beaks into the opening. The wasps would come out and literally escort the hummingbird away, like fighter planes might do. They never attacked or bit anyone, including me and I walked right under their nest several times a day.
