RE: alpha male's beliefs concerning the age of the Earth
In The Big Inning Alpha created the Urth. For reasons that boggle the mind Alpha decided to make the Urth look like it was billions of years old rather than the tens of thousands that it actually was. To accomplish this feat he ramped up the rate of nuclear decay by a factor of half a million.

On the first Day Alpha said "Let there be Light!" And lo, there was the faint blue-green glow of Cherenokov radiation and ionized oxygen. And Alpha saw it and thought that it was good.

On the Second Day Alpha separated the land from the seas. It seemed like a good idea at the time but since water is so very good at absorbing radiation they rapidly began to boil from the bottom upward. And Alpha saw the frothing stew that the seas had become and thought that it was good.

On the Third Day Alpha created all manner of plants. They grew withered and stunted for the radiation tore at their cells and the clouds of vapor blocked the sun and their roots cooked in the soil. And Alpha saw the brown and blighted landscape, so very reminiscent of the Gobi, and thought that it was good.

On the Fourth Day Alpha made day and night, the sun, the moon and the stars. In the brightly glowing landscape it was difficult to tell day from night and it was impossible to see the heavenly bodies. And Alpha saw how brilliant his lights were and thought that they were good.

On the Fifth Day Alpha brought forth animals upon the face of the Urth. The animals ran screaming for the ground was hot enough to fry eggs on. They went blind and their hair fell out and they bled from places that no creature should bleed from. They were not fruitful and did not multiply. The less said about the whales and other creatures of the great gumbo sea the better. And Alpha saw their frollicking and thought that it was good.

On the Sixth Day Alpha created Man in his own image. And the Man said "Aaaaarrrrghhh!!!!!" and dropped stone cold dead. For the air was the temperature of an oven and the ground was like a griddle. But at least the unfortunate bugger was spared the indignity of a slow, painful death from radiation. And Alpha saw this and cried, "Sinner!" and smote the Man somewhat redundantly.

On the Seventh Day Alpha rested. And while he rested the land melted into a vast ocean of bubbling lava. And verily it did bubble for the lava exsolved vast quantities of radiogenic helium. And the seas did boil and mix with the air, combining under the influence of radiolytic chemistry to yield nitric acid and other noxious compounds. And the atmosphere that was not inert was corrosive. And the molten land now glowed with both heat and radioactivity.

And Alpha looked out on this Inferno that made Venus look like upscale real-estate and wondered "Where did I go wrong?" And then God beat him about the head and shoulders with a remedial mathematics text for making such a damned fool mess.

Amen.

RE: alpha male's beliefs concerning the age of the Earth
The biblical model was assumed and very much studied by science around 400 years ago. It carried all the benefit of the doubt and had every scientist on its side. That is until evidence overturned the biblical model. The biblical model consistently fails to make accurate predictions about the universe while evidence-based models consistently do make accurate predictions. There is no anti-biblical bias or conspiracy going on here. The simple fact of the matter is that childish superstition has been replaced. It has been replaced by knowledge.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

I can argue just as well that you were created five minutes ago with all the memories of your life in place. There's no way you can disprove it but it's pretty meaningless. If you persist in this nonsense we will feed you to the Last Thursdayists.

Well, no.

and god said, let there be light, and it was good. Divided the first day from night

Let's parse that information, shall we?

The early quark-gluon plasma was opaque to electromagnetic radiation; in essence, let there be light was the beginning. Furthermore, the first thing god did? Was take a measurement. Invent science. Declare it good.

The purpose is given - "to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth.” No need to go through the charade of creating them then waiting.

You do realize that star light reaches the planet from all directions around the globe 24/7 non-stop. Right?
