baptism godfather
One of the many traditions of the catholic church is choosing a gofather for your son or daughter's baptism. Usually the parents best friends are chosen.

I'm an atheist an I'm not gonna baptise netninja jr but I do have a very goo friend and I wish there was a tittle I could give him to make him special for my son and to show him how important he is too me as well. This guy is the only person who has been by my side in this lonely atheistic journey. There's many things I could say about him, the point is: this guy is like a brother to me and I wish he could be my baby's god father but he can't.

Any thoughts on what can I name him? We often joke about how he is my son's NOT-godfather but that sounds stupid don't you think?

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.

Godfather. You can just omit the religious aspect. Or...you can just not have a label. Who cares?

I actually quite like the term godfather, I get a warm feeling associated with the term for some reason.
I didn't even realize it was a catholic thing until recently. Go figure.

godlessfather?

I'd probably just go with uncle and when jr is old enough you can explain that some people are family by blood and some are family by other bonds.

I'm am an atheist and a godfather. My buddy, who is also an atheist, refers to me as both "Uncle Jim" and "The Godfather".
