Austin. Probably visiting San Antonio, and possibly Houston.

Visiting Austin is a little like visiting Boston. Big Grin It is the one liberal bastion in Texas. You'll like it.

N.B. I was in Austin for U.S. Thanksgiving once - they had snow. Austin is in the central plateau.

Quite true, but "cjlr goes to a transplanted corner of the north-east" isn't a thread title that lets me make lazy, hackneyed jokes!

Be very nice to all the red heads you run into.
Angie may be one of them.

Texans have a great sense of humor.

Find the biggest cowboy you can and riddle them this. “What is a Texan?”

A Mexican on his way to Oklahoma! Someone’s going to die laughing Yes

Fun fact: the line originally referred to Dallas, but it was redubbed to Vegas after Kennedy was shot.

Hmmm, did not know that.

If you watch his mouth you can see he's saying Dallas, not Vegas.

If you happen to be in Austin on a Sunday evening, you could go see The Atheist Experience live.

RE: cjlr goes to Texas
I'm in Austin. So are these folks. They have meetups each Sunday open to all. Or so I hear, I've never actually made it to one.

Is there something particular your folks are looking to see or do?

I've never thought of Texas as a vacation destination. I'm sure it's a great place to live, but I really don't know what you'd do there. (Florida is much better!)

Enjoy your vacation. Smile
